Mother Lode Jewish Community Celebrates Lag B'Omer

Jamestown, CA...Taking place on the 33rd day after the end of Passover, Lag B’Omer. is a festive holiday on the Jewish Calendar. It is a popular day for weddings, picnics, youthful celebrations and bonfires (though not in our tinder-dry hills). This year the holiday falls on a weekend, Sunday, April 28th, so the Mother Lode Jewish Community (MLJC) will be celebrating on the on the actual date of the Holiday...

A fun-filled casual afternoon in a Jamestown “high ridge backyard” is in the works, with a BBQ & potluck luncheon at noon followed by a variety of activities including archery, horseshoes, kite flying, guitar strumming, a wild flower walk and just plain schmoozing. Good food…great company, this is the MLJC’s spring celebration! Other activities that will take place that day are a cemetery “spring cleaning” at the Jewish Cemetery in Sonora, beginning at 9 am followed by a presentation by Stephen Kinsey, a representative of the Cemeteries and Landmarks Commission about 11 am.

This is a complimentary member event with new members and guests most welcome! For more information, please email the Mother Lode Jewish Community at motherlodejc@yahoo.com or call 209-533-1650.

The MLJC’s mission is to provide opportunities and events that nurture a vibrant and enduring Jewish identity, culture and community in the Mother Lode; with members from Amador, Calaveras, Mariposa and Tuolumne counties.
