Murphys, CA...Congratulations to Yogurt Your Way - Jenny and her family are opening a new shop in Jackson in the Amador Ridge Shopping Center next to Dickey's Bar-b-Cue and Jamba Juice. The Kitchen at Newsome-Harlow is now open 7 days a week, presenting small plates and tasty tidbits to pair with their award winning wines. Hours are Sunday - Thursday noon to 5pm and Friday and Saturday noon to 8 pm. Although the menu changes with the availability of fresh produce, many of your favorite appetizers, meals and desserts are still available.

This Summer at Black Sheep Winery - The Black Sheep Winery Tasting Room will be featuring the artwork of local photographer Bernadette Callen. All the photographs in the exhibit are of the Eastern slope of the Sierra and the coastline above San Francisco. Come in and view Bernadette's photographs of the spectacular beauty of California's Sierras and North Coast, and enjoy some of Black Sheep's award winning wines such as the Double Gold and Best of Class 2009 Grenache and the State Fair Gold Medal winning 2008 Amador Co. July 21, 2012 - Murphys Homecoming & Duck Races - Everyone is invited to the 63rd annual Murphys Homecoming in our historic community park. There is no admission charge and activities will kick off at 11:30 a.m. with a concert by the Calaveras Community Band. At noon, the traditional Old Timers Luncheon will be served free of charge to anyone who has attained the age of 70 and has lived in the Murphys, Vallecito, Douglas Flat area for at least ten years. This popular event is made possible by a generous contribution from the Native Daughters of the Golden West, Ruby Parlor #46. Those participating in Murphys Homecoming who do not meet the “old timers” criteria need not go hungry. The Community Club will be selling pulled pork on a special roll accompanied by coleslaw and watermelon. Beer, wine and soft drinks will also be available for purchase. Throughout the day, members of Community Club board and representatives of the Old Timers’ Museum garbed in period costumes will roam the park to chat with attendees and pose for pictures. There will be a face painter and juggler to entertain the younger family members.
At 1 p.m. the first of five duck races will be held for the benefit of the Calaveras Humane Society. Participants will rent a numbered duck for each race; $5 for adults, $2 for kids. The little yellow ducks will make their way down Murphys Creek with the first three to cross the finish line winning a prize for his or her “owner.” There will be three races for adults and two for kids, with appropriate prizes. The last race will be at 3 p.m. For further information call 736-9417.
