Gold Rush Day at The Angels Camp Museum~by Patrick Works

Angels Camp, CA...Once a year we are treated to something very special at the Angels Camp Museum; Gold Rush Day, when admission is free, food and drink are plentiful, and history comes alive! This Centennial year was no exception as demonstrations of Gold Rush period music, food, military history, and of course prospecting were presented by historian/actor/musician/craftsmen and women in period costume accompanied the ever growing collection on the museum grounds.....

This year has seen the addition of a spinning wheel and loom from the Gold Rush period, and the construction of a complete printing shop. Demonstrations on both these exhibits are planned to begin later this year, just as soon as the last few details can be completed. History is indeed ALIVE at the Angels Camp Museum!

Further projects include the construction of a complete blacksmith's shop to be located next to the new print shop.

Saturday's Gold Rush Day was more than special as we learned so much about our area's history from the shoes people wore, to their top hats....what was in their pockets, what they tossed out in the trash, and most of all why they came here, and why so many stayed to build this community.

Gold Rush Day is only the beginning of a wonderful Centennial Year celebration. The Angels Camp Museum Board and staff, in partnership with the Angels Camp Business Association and many other members of our community are giving this very special year everything they can in celebration of 100 years since the incorporation of Angels Camp.

Next on the very busy calendar for 2012 is the Fourth of July Picnic at Utica Park. Yes...it's actually on the Fourth (a Wednesday) and it will be full of traditional Independence Day Picnic fun. Food, games, music...and we at thePinetree.net will surely be there. We hope you will be too.

If you'd like to learn more about what is happening this Centennial Year, please get in touch with the Angels Camp Museum via their website http://angelscamp.gov/index.php?option=com_content&view=section&layout=blog&id=11&Itemid=26

And of course, stay in touch with this website. We at thePinetree.net celebrate with you.
