Call for Applications for 2012 Junior Miss Calaveras Pageant!
Calaveras County, CA...The Junior Miss Calaveras Pageant and Junior Frog Jump will be held concurrently on Saturday, May 12 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Altaville Melones Fire Department in Angels Camp. The Junior Miss Calaveras competition is open to 8th grade girls in Calaveras County. The contestants are judged on beauty, personality and pleasantness by a panel of experienced judges and raffle ticket sales. The winner will be announced during the Junior Frog jump and she will be presented at the Calaveras County Fair the next week. All interested 8th grade girls are encouraged to apply.....

Detailed flyers outlining the contest was given to the offices of all 8th grade schools in the county during the week of March 12. A copy of this flyer is attached to this release. Any interested girls should attend a meeting at the Altaville-Melones firehouse on Sat. March 31 at 1:00 PM. A parent or guardian must also attend this meeting with the applicant.
The duties of the Jr. Queen include participation in many of the holiday parades and special events that take place throughout the county in 2012-2013.
The Altaville Melones Fire Department is Located on Monte Verda Street in Angels Camp.

The Altaville Melones Fire Department will be starting the application process for the 2012 Junior Miss Calaveras Contest to be held Sat. May 12, 2012
Similar to last year, we will have the following procedure for the contest: Anyone wishing to sign up as a contestant can do so by attending a meeting at the Altaville Melones Fire Department.
The meeting will be held on Saturday March 31, 2012, promptly at 1pm. We would like this to be the only time to sign up for the contest. Call Ed Ritter (736-8067) if you would like to attend this meeting. You must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at the meeting. Applications and tickets will be handed out at the Meeting.
Junior Miss Calaveras will be selected as follows:
30% Beauty- Face and Figure
30% Personality- Pleasantness voice quality & manner
30% Poise & charm- walk, carriage & gracefulness
10% Raffle Ticket Sales
In the coming year, the duties of the Jr. Queen and her court will include:
-Presentation of the Queen at the Calaveras County Fair on Thursday during the Miss Calaveras contest
-Participation in various parades and events in Calaveras County including:
-Living History Days
-Copperopolis Homecoming
-Murphys Irish Days Parade
-Angels Christmas Parade
-4th of July Parade
-Murphys Homecoming
-Other events as they are identified
The Junior Miss Calaveras contest is open to all 8th grade girls residing in Calaveras County.
DIRECTIONS to Altaville Melones Firehouse:
The Altaville Melones Fire Department is Located on Monte Verda Street in Angels Camp.
If you are south bound, .Monte Verda Street will be the first right after the signal for Hwy 4 & Hwy 49.
If you are north bound, Monte Verda Street is the second right after the Angels Town Center (where Save Mart is located.)
Monte Verda Street is on the south side of CalTrans.

QUALIFICATIONS AND RULES FOR JUNIOR MISS CALAVERAS
Contestants entering the Junior Miss Calaveras Contest will be judged on Saturday May 12, 2012 at 10:30 am at the Altaville Melones Fire Department.
Junior Miss Calaveras will be selected as follows:
30% Beauty- Face and Figure
30% Personality- Pleasantness voice quality & manner
30% Poise & charm- walk, carriage & gracefulness
10% Ticket Sales (See below)
Dress: Appropriate dress is required, for example, a dress and shoes suitable for graduation ceremony. Examples of inappropriate dress are: jeans and t-shirt, overly revealing clothing, cocktail dresses, flip flop sandals, etc.
TOP FIVE TICKET SELLERS WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR THE FOLLOWING PRIZES
Ticket sales prizes will be as follows:
FIRST----------------$100.00
SECOND-------------$50.00
THIRD----------------$35.00
FOURTH-------------$25.00
FIFTH---------------- $15.00
To be eligible for the Queen contest each contestant MUST sell 300 tickets. They will be judged as explained on your entry sheet. When your entry is received you will be provided with tickets. The tickets will be sold for 50 cents each. You may have all your friends sell for you, but be sure to tell them to have the phone number and address and name of the ticket buyer so they can be contacted if they are the winner.
Proceeds from ticket sales benefit the Altaville Melones Fire District volunteer firefighters association. These monies are used for various services including victim relief and bereavement, firefighter equipment purchase, and contributions to worthy community causes.
A ticket drawing will be held at the Queen contest. The winners of the ticket raffle will receive an HDTV, a paid weekend at Carson Valley Inn or one of many prizes obtained from local merchants. The winner need not be present to win.
The girls chosen for the Junior Miss Calaveras and First and Second Princesses will receive a four day pass for herself to the fair. They will also be requested to be in attendance for 2 hours each day
at Altaville Melones' T-Shirt booth.

Each contestant shall be responsible for the value of the tickets received by the contestant for the sale. Each contestant shall remit 50 cents for each ticket to the Altaville Melones Fire Department for each ticket not returned to the Fire Department complete with both halves. By their signature below, the undersigned parent or guardian agrees to accept responsibility for payment of money due for tickets by this contestant.
