Highway 4 Teen Center Receives $4,000 Grant Public Meeting is set for Nov. 3

Angels Camp – October 16, 2011 – The Highway 4 Teen Center has been awarded a $4,000 grant from the Calaveras Community Foundation, and the spirited grassroots volunteer group is busy making plans to create a youth center for the Highway 4 corridor from Arnold to Copperopolis. “We were elated to find out that we received the grant,” said Jan Hovey, president. “We can’t thank the Calaveras Community Foundation enough for giving us the opportunity to move forward with our dream. This grant will allow us to form a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, as well as host a fundraising kick-off event and produce promotional materials to gain community support.”

“What we really need now is for people to step up and work with us on this vital project,” said Sue Funkey, vice president. “The need for a teen center in our area is great.”
Interested individuals, adults and teens, are highly encouraged to attend a public meeting starting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3 at the Calaveras County Office of Education, 185 S. Main St. in Angels Camp. “Whether you can volunteer for one hour a month or would like to give us your input, this meeting is an important one to attend,” exclaimed Funkey.

During the Oct. 7 steering committee meeting committees were formed and officers were elected. Volunteers are needed for the following committees: research, fundraising, outreach, finance and location. Board members include: Jan Hovey, president; Sue Funkey, vice-president; Michele Rugo, secretary; Tim Hildabrand, treasurer; and current members at large are Lloyd Schneider, Tim Smith and Tim Saunders. “We’re looking for additional board members, as well as teens to join the board,” reported Hovey.

For additional information, contact Hovey at 728-9700 or jhovey@goldrush.com, and to be added to the e-mail list, e-mail Hildabrand at t@hstar.com. Information is also available on Facebook.com/calaveras4teencenter.
