Reclamation Invites Volunteers to Clean Up and Restore the Natural Bridges ....Recreation Area at New Melones Lake on Saturday, October 22, 2011

The Bureau of Reclamation’s Central California Area Office, New Melones Lake, is continuing their celebration of National Public Lands Day (NPLD) with a recreation area cleanup and trail restoration event at the Natural Bridges Recreation Area on Saturday, October 22, 2011, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. New Melones Lake is located on Highway 49, approximately 8 miles north of Sonora and 6 miles south of Angels Camp, Calif. On-site registration and check-in will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Natural Bridges Trail Head located on Parrotts Ferry Road approximately 3 miles north of Columbia, Calif....

The public, organizations and local businesses are invited to participate. To register, please contact Jim Revord at 209-536-9094, extension 200, or e-mail jrevord@usbr.gov, or contact Park Ranger Tracy Neal at 209-536-9094, extension 215, or e-mail tneal@usbr.gov. Participants needing special accommodations may contact Ranger Neal through the Federal Relay Service at 800-877-8339.

Volunteers should dress appropriately for the weather, bring a lunch, wear sturdy shoes, and bring work gloves and trash grabbers, if possible.
With the growing concern about childhood obesity and the lack of time children spend outdoors enjoying nature, New Melones Lake offers a perfect opportunity for families to get outdoors and experience what our public lands have to offer. NPLD and New Melones Lake support the Department of the Interior’s Let's Move Outside! and Youth in the Great Outdoors initiatives. To learn more about these initiatives, please visit http://youthgo.gov/ and http://www.letsmove.gov/lets-move-outside.
