Volunteers are Key to Success at the County Fair!

Frogtown, USA.....The Calaveras County Fair & Jumping Frog Jubilee is a mecca of individuals and organizations volunteering to make the County’s signature event successful. The Fair has six standing committees that work all year to plan the annual event. The Junior Livestock Committee is the longest standing committee, created in the 1970’s. This group of 30 individuals works tirelessly to manage and operate the Junior Livestock Auction. In addition to facilitating the auction the committee advises the Board on livestock rules and procedures......

The Frog Jump Committee has a vital role. They regulate, facilitate and maintain the Fair’s landmark event, the Frog Jump Competition. The Frog Jump Committee care for the frogs, manage the competition and help preserve the history of the Frog Jump. The committee also organizes promotional jumps.

The Theme Committee is a group of volunteers who concentrate on the exhibits program. The committee is made up of exhibit hall volunteers and community members who have a passion for the exhibit program. The exhibit halls host art, wine, crafts, home arts and much more.

The Arena Committee is made up of individuals who are assisting in programming and maintaining the arena. This group of volunteers help in the arena event planning. The rodeo, special competitions and western horse events are managed by this group.

The Marketing Committee of the Calaveras County Fair is very important. Several professionals in this area work with staff to plan the annual marketing campaign. The Marketing Committee’s function is to plan advertising, special events and contests.

The Friends of the Calaveras County Fair is an action based group committed to improvement and historical preservation of the Fair. Every year the Friends hold a community raffle called the “Pot o’ Gold”. Participants have a chance to win $11,000. The proceeds from the raffle have assisted the Friends with two major projects; a sign at the Fairground’s south entrance and the new Ranch House venue.

Several other Calaveras County organizations assist the Fair. The AMA Boosters Club park cars during Fair. San Andreas Community Covenant Church cleans up trash. Feeney Park and the Veterans of Foreign Wars serve beer. The Calaveras County Junior Livestock Boosters assist in price boosting for exhibitors who did not earn enough money to cover average project costs. There are many opportunities for community groups to get involved.

Organizations or individuals who wish to participate in the Calaveras County Fair & Jumping Frog Jubilee should contact the Fairground office at 209-736-2561. All committee meetings are open to the public and welcome new volunteers and ideas.
