The Sheriff's Department and Supervisors Say Thanks for Measure J at Groundbreaking!
San Andreas, CA...After decades of need the new Adult Detention Facility is officially underway. The Calaveras Board of Supervisors and the Sheriff's Office thanked the Citizens who voted to support Measure J and the State of California for the AB900 funds which are making the new Jail a reality. The voters passed the bond measure in 2007 with 67.2% percent of the vote....

Speaking this morning were Calaveras County Board of Supervisors Chair Merita Callaway. Matthew Cate, Secretary California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation and Dennis Downum, Sheriff.
Breaking Ground this morning were Jeanne Boyce, Merita Callaway, Dennis Huberty, Matthew Cate, Ed Ballard, Dennis Downum, Sally Mole, Mike Walker and Tom Tryon
The over $50 million facility is $31 million in Measure J funds and $26.4 million in AB900 funds from the State. The main jail will house 160 inmates and total approximately 78,000 square feet. A minimum security dormitory of $11,000 square feet.
The work on the project will begin in earnest in January with a projected completion date of November 2012. Inmates are slated to move in in 2013.
