Big Trees Market Co-Founder Carl Truman Self Jr.- July 4, 1930 - November 29, 2010
Murphys, CA...Carl Truman Self Jr. Passed away yesterday at his home in Murphys. He was 80 years old. Carl was born on July 4, 1930 in Oklahoma and moved to California as a very young boy. He is survived by his high school sweethart and wife of 62 years Joan of Murphys, Jeff (Pat) Self of Arcata, Nick (Sharon) Self of Camp Connell, Denise (Richard) Schaupp of Cambria, Judy (Gary) Lynn of Gardenerville, Chris (Paula) Self of Arnold, Scott (Lisa) Self of Avery. He also leaves behind 8 Grand-Children and 3 Great Grand Children...
A Happy Angler at Eagle Lake
Two Brothers Chuck Self of Stockton and Bob Self of Huntington Beach. Carl Served in the Marine Corps reserve during the Korean War.
He was in the Grocery Business for most of his adult life. He worked as a store manager for Don Quicks Grocery in Stockton until 1972. That same year he bought the old Avery Market in Avery along with his brother in law Bill Cheney.
Together they built the business to include Applewood Market in Arnold which is now Big Trees Market.
After retiring he enjoyed spending time with his family and fishing. He looked forward to his yearly fishing trip to Eagle Lake with his fishing buddies.
Friends and Family are invited to attend funeral services on Friday December 3, 2010 at 11:00am at Angels Memorial Chapel in Angels Camp. Interment will be at Buena Vista Cemetery in Murphys, CA.
