Local Family Welcomes Their Soldier Home from Iraq ~ By, Charity Maness
Spc Ryan Rosario is home with his family, wife Michaela, 3 year old daughter Melodie, and 1 year old son Matt after serving a grueling eight month tour in Iraq. Smiles and hugs were plentiful as he played with his children amazed at how quickly they had grown.
Though the Army pushed back his original deployment date so that he could be home for the birth of his son, he still missed a large part of his young children’s lives while away. He smiled warmly at his wife when she would glance his way between changing diapers and chasing running children. He said when he first saw his wife patiently waiting for him at the base airport in Washington State, after he got off the plane his only thought was “Wow!” Happy to be back with family and friends, where food tastes like food and its “not so dusty and hot” and it doesn’t “stink.” He told of how even the simple things in life like a cold Pepsi or Coke were few and far between and tasted somehow different, not very good.
When Rosario was deployed, he flew into Kuwait and convoyed to Balad, a city 80 kilometers North of Baghdad then to Al Asad Airfield, the second largest airbase in Iraq located in northern Iraq approximately 180 kilometers West of Baghdad and 12 kilometers Southwest of the Euphrates River. This base was captured in 2003 by Australian Special Air Service Regiment troops, quickly becoming a strategic allied air base.
Ryan is contemplating re-enlisting as a military intelligence analyst, yet the defense contracting seems to be enticing.
Ryan is a local boy from Murphy’s, his wife Michaela from Copperopolis, both attended Bret Harte High School.
Thank you Ryan for your service…and welcome home!
