Columbia College Presents 41st commencement on April 30th
Columbia College will hold its 41st Commencement on Friday, April 30 at 6:30 p.m. in the Oak Pavilion. A reception for the graduates, their families, friends and guests will be held immediately after the ceremony in Carkeet Park next to the pavilion. Among the graduating class, 124 associate in arts degrees will be conferred, 54 associate in science degrees, 17 associate in science (occupational education) degrees, and 66 certificates of achievement. Twelve will graduate with distinction (cumulative grade point averages of 3.75 or better) and 21 with honors (between 3.5 and 3.74 grade point averages)....
Those who will receive both A.A. and A.S. or A.S.O.E degrees are Stephanie Jo Bailey, Amber N. Black, Patrick Kelly Brown, Alexander I. Encoyand, Heather Vinét Hein, Karlee May Johnson, Ashley Ann Justice, Yuodde P. Kauk, Matthew Warren Lamanuzzi, Sonjya Marie McCallister, Alice Risard, Daniel Anthony Rodriguez, Wyatt Nathan Rovera, Heather Diane Stone, and Brandon V. Wright.
In addition, both associate degrees and certificates will be presented to Stephanie Jo Bailey, David Benjamin Barmore, Constantine George Boubalos, Vincent Eric Ferenczy, Jamie Joseph Grenland , Sabrina Jean Gudgel, Jessica Lynn Holden, Ashley Ann Justice, Christina Puakalehua Puanani Kappler, Jesse Wayne Pereira, Michelle Elizabeth Towns, Amanda Ann Walker, Michael S. Welch, and Aja Alexxis Yarbrough.
Scott Etter, President of the Associated Students of Columbia College (ASCC), will deliver the welcome address. Lonnie Blansit, President of the Classified Senate and Erik Andal, President of the Academic Senate will convey the college’s welcome. The student graduation address will be delivered by Emily Marie Valentine and the concluding student farewell will be by Ariella Merav Megory.
Dr. Joan Smith, Columbia College President will introduce members of the class of 2010. She will be joined on-stage by Yosemite Community College District Trustees Pat Dean, Chairperson (area 1); Desirree Abshire (area 2); and Linda Flores (area 5).
Also assisting in the ceremonies will be Dr. Dennis Gervin, the college’s Vice President for Student Learning; Mr. Michael Perez, Vice President for College and Administrative Services; Gary Mendenhall, Dean of Instructional Services, Vocational Education; Melissa Raby, Dean of Student Services; and, Michael Torok, Dean of Instructional Services, Arts & Sciences. Krista White, Columbia College student and musician, will play the National Anthem on the piano and the Columbia College Big Band, under the direction of Dr. Rod Harris, will provide other musical selections during the event.
