Fishing Report for New Melones Week of October 26th, 2009~by Glory Hole Sports
Trout: Trout are feeding heavily on the small threadfin shad that are so plentiful in the lake right now. It's time to tie on a small minnow under a bobber and head to the mouths of any of the creeks. Throwing a small silver spoon is another good choice. The rainbows are starting to move up, as the water temperature cools down. Anglers with boats have had success still-fishing way upriver or up in the creek arms. Trolling has been picking up, and the trout are moving shallower. Troll anywhere from the surface to 50 feet.....
deep. Trollers have been having success with shad-patterned lures such as Needlefish or Excel lures, and smaller Rapala Countdowns. Using a small grub as a trailer behind your lure has been effective, too- try Sep's trolling grubs.
Kokanee: The season is over. There are still kokanee spawning upriver.
Bass: Many local bass anglers spent some time on the lake this weekend, and most reported excellent fishing for numbers of fish. Bass are targeting schools of shad that are holding over wind-blown main lake points.
Catfish: Seems to be slowing down with the cooler weather. Catfish will move out into deeper water at this time of year, so try fishing a little deeper. Use anchovies, mackerel, sardines, chicken liver, or a ball of nightcrawlers. Leave your bail open so the cats can pick the bait up and swim with it- you will be more likely to hook them that way. Be sure to use a sliding sinker weight.
Crappie and bluegill: Fair to slow. Night fishing under a light is best. Crappie can be found hanging out in submerged trees, about 30'-45' feet deep. Bear Creek, Mormon Creek and Carson Creek are all good bets. For crappie, try fishing live small or medium minnows, or crappie jigs with jigs in red/white, black/chartreuse or purple/white.

Lake Don Pedro and Tulloch Report
The trout bite here in Tuolumne County remains very stable are the heavy rains from a week ago.
Lake Don Pedro continues to offer some nice bows, work the face of the dam, off Jenkins Hill and Graveyard Bay from the surface down to 35' for bows to four pounds. Effective lures this past week, Kastmasters, Needlefish, and small Excels, another productive set-up is trolling Slim Willies in tandem with a nightcrawler.
Lake Tulloch, remains a good choice, giving up some nice rainbows to three pounds. The Green Springs arm remains very productive fishing under the power lines that cross the arm. Trolling depth remains from 8' to 25' using Midge Wobblers, Ex-Cel or Triple Teasers trolled at two plus MPH. Surface Temp of 63 degrees.
