Don De Young Lecture on Legendary Mountain Man Monte Wolf ~Full Lecture Video by Paul Moeller Enclosed

Bear Valley, CA...The Bear Valley Music Festival tent had a good sized crowd on hand for historian Don De Young's lecture on the secrets of Monte Wolf. Over a period of ten years, using genealogy and handwriting analysis, Don has discovered Monty's true identity, early history, and even living relatives. He will soon commence writing what will surely be the definitive biography of the mysterious mountain man who disappeared without a trace in 1940...

Above is the 1909 booking photo of Archey Wright (Monty's true name) at Folsom Prison where he served 15 months for a minor burglary. The physical report accompanying the photo said he had many scars and gouges as well as two amputated toes, and described him as very muscular.

after leading a life of adventure, danger, thievery, and solitude. The lecture was sponsored by the Ebbetts Pass Historical Society, which is hoping to help Don collect people's stories and pictures of Monty for inclusion in his book.

We would like to thank legendary local videographer Paul Moeller for letting us pass along some of his work..
