Coming Soon To A Bypass Near You ~By John Hamilton

Angels Camp, CA...One of the topics making the rounds the last week our so is how will traffic heading down Hwy 4 continue on down the old Hwy 4 to get to Historic Angels Camp, nearby business or make the left hand turn to Frogtown, Melones or Sonora. Teichert will be installing an intersection there right after the Bypass has been opened. Reports have been circulating that this may take as long as a month. One thing to remember is that this project has been on Teichert Time. What is "Teichert Time"? Well Teichert Time is when you take a normal construction estimate and cut it in half or even less. So if the public estimate is 4 weeks I would bet it...

comes in at two weeks or less. Why? These guys are fast and they seem to relish making progress on the Angels Camp Bypass that defies time estimates. Maybe they can take a look at our state budget when they finish here.

If you look closely as you head down or up the hill you will notice that most of the grading has been done. It is just that is is above current vehicle level and it is hard to see.

They will be attacking this full force as soon as the bypass is open. In the figure above is shows a rough layout of the intersection. Angels Camp City Manager Tim Shearer mentioned a couple of weeks ago that traffic heading up the hill from Old Town will be able to continue up the hill without a stop and there will be a left hand turn lane for traffic wishing to make the left there.
