Live Fire Training off of Wards Ferry Road Starting June 28th
San Andreas, CA...The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) Tuolumne - Calaveras Unit will be conducting live fire training in Tuolumne County. Students from around the State will be taught the proper techniques to plan and conduct complex firing operations during wildland fire suppression. Techniques learned will be utilized during suppression efforts to starve an approaching wildland fire of available vegetation.
The training will occur at the Sardella Ranch on Wards Ferry Road near Sonora, CA. The live fire training will aid the rangeland by burning Medusahead grass, a noxious weed identified by Tuolumne County Agriculture Department.
The two-day live fire training will commence Wednesday June 28th, and conclude Thursday the 29th. Live burning will be conducted from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. each day. Resources utilized to conduct the training will consist of five fire engines and two fire crews, and one bulldozer. If conditions are conducive, approximately 80 acres of grass and oak understory will be burned.
