San Andreas, CA...One reoccurring theme you will hear over the next few months is "Welcome Home" A push is being made to highlight what a great place Calaveras County is to raise a family and put down roots that can be multi-generational. We know that quality education and schools are one of the biggest factors in choosing a home. Our schools and communities can and have produced young adults that can thrive in any business environment or on any stage large or small. We want you to get to know the administrators and teachers that are guiding our young students. Our first interview is with CUSD Superintendent Mark Campbell who leads an integrated K-12 district with just over 3,000 students and actually has more students than all of the school districts in the county combined...

From Jenny Lind to West Point and Rail Road Flat are elementary schools close to the residents with Calaveras High School in San Andreas that has been sending out Graduates to conquer the world since 1905.
Calaveras High School, Toyon Middle School, Jenny Lind Elementary, San Andreas Elementary, Valley Springs Elementary, West Point Elementary, Mokelumne Hill Elementary, Rail Road Flat Elementary and more make up the schools of the School District that educates our young residents in the Northern half of Calaveras County.
About "Welcome Home": Welcome Home is a campaign by the Calaveras County Chamber and Economic Development Community to improve the economy and economic opportunities in our area.*
"Welcome Home" will be split into short, medium and long term goals. First to coax a few hundred of the over 7,000 property owners in the Bay Area and Silicon Valley to make their vacation homes their primary home. Many of these have jobs in the High Tech industry that are not only well paying but portable as well. Calaveras County can offer a healthy, well rounded, place to raise families that are happy and thrive in small, close knit and supportive communities.
The second phase is to highlight what a great place this area can be for entrepreneurs and those wishing to have a lower cost basis for running their businesses without having to move out of state. We have lower housing costs and lower costs of living that can be competitive advantages and you still get to live in a truly spectacular area in California with, Snow Skiing, Fishing, Mountain Biking, Hiking, Golf, Wine Tasting, Restaurants, Rich History, Great Weather and still close enough to airports and the Bay Area in case you need those face to face meetings.
The third phase is to work with our local governments to make this an attractive place to move or grow traditional manufacturing, retail and larger format industry. There are many areas perfect for this category of larger employers especially in the lower elevation areas of the county.
If you have visited Calaveras County and have thought as you make you way back to that large metropolitan area you now live "Wow, I really wish we could live and work in Calaveras! I love it there!" Well we are here to tell you, that you can and also "Welcome Home"
*Since 2008 the county has lost population and lost population in a larger percentage than either Amador to the North or Tuolumne to the South. It wasn't just population that we lost but who we lost. We lost young families in the construction trades in large numbers who had to leave our area to survive with the collapse of the housing market. These families made up a large segment of our traditional middle class and also those families sending students to our local schools.
