Merita Callaway Announces Return to District 3 Politics

Murphys, CA...Veteran Calaveras County Supervisor, Merita Callaway is announcing her candidacy for District 3 Supervisor. “Being a Supervisor is about listening and working in collaboration on a local, regional and state level… and, as always, in all that I do, I am committed to ensure that multiple voices are heard”. Merita Callaway is a 30-year resident of District 3, multiple term supervisor, and a recognized champion of fiscal conservatism and service to the needs of district residents. “Expenditures need to be balanced between the diverse needs of the community and available resources. Needs can run the gamut from libraries, to animal services, planning department, grand jury, as well as public safety, to name a few.”

Callaway sees land use as a key issue currently confronting the County, “If the General Plan is not completed in 2018, it must be the highest land use priority as it is the economic engine of Calaveras. Zoning codes, including the new land use designations and parcel sizes, must be updated to be consistent with the General Plan, and presented to the property owner or developer in a way that is easily understood”.

A prominent community activist, Callaway’s leadership efforts include the Calaveras Community Foundation Board, Advisory Committee Calaveras Big Trees Association, Murphys Friends – Team Leader, Ebbetts Pass National Scenic Byway Board, and member of numerous local organizations. Her contributions to these organizations reflect her trusted leadership as an advisor, and as a Supervisor, they are a grassroots channel to community voices she will represent.

“Running for office is not a decision taken lightly. Over the past few months I have had many conversations with former supporters, community leaders, and friends from diverse political viewpoints. It is my hope that by running for office, we can raise the level of discussion in our district and refine our collective commitment to making Calaveras County and District 3 a vibrant place to live, work, learn, and visit.”
