BMW Driver Sought from Vehicle Pursuit
Valley Springs, CA...On 12-1-17 at approx. 11:30pm, a Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputy initiated a traffic enforcement stop on a BMW sedan near Pine Street in Valley Springs. That suspect vehicle was not registered and is listed for non-operation with DMV. The suspect vehicle failed to yield to the marked patrol car’s emergency lights and siren. The pursuit travelled through the town of Paloma and Eastbound on Highway 26. Near the intersection of Highways 26 and 49, the California Highway Patrol deployed spike strips that successfully punctured tires on the suspect vehicle. Unfortunately, the spike strips also successfully punctured tires on a CCSO patrol vehicle as well.
Another CCSO Deputy continued pursuit and as is policy, turned the pursuit over to the California Highway Patrol. The suspect vehicle began sparking from the tire rims striking the pavement but the vehicle continued Eastbound on Highway 26. While driving through the river canyon east of the south fork Mokelumne River bridge, the suspect vehicle was stopped by CHP. The male driver exited the vehicle abruptly and fled on foot off the roadway and into the thick foliage. A K-9 was deployed from Amador County and assisted other law enforcement officers in searching for the suspect who was not apprehended. The suspect vehicle was towed from the scene.
Follow-up is being conducted regarding the identity of the driver.
No further information is available at this time.
