Today Is The Fourth Of July. What Does That Mean Aside From Celebrating Our National Independence? ~By Al Segalla
Copperopolis, CA...As a kid, I was excited about the fire crackers, rockets and sparklers. We didn't usually get to watch the big fireworks shows. I liked putting a cherry bomb under a tin can, shooting it 30 feet up in the air. Totally cool! Too bad my dad didn't think so. After much reading I discovered the 4th can mean so much more than independence and cherry bombs - even BBQs. It can be a celebration of human liberty!
For most of human history mankind has been enslaved and human beings were merely property.
That all changed with the ideals expressed in the Declaration of Independance and the brilliant Constitution. While it is true it took six decades more for the Emancipation Proclamation to come about, it had to be because it was the right thing to do.
After reading The Law by Frederic Bastiat, it became apparent to me that the purpose of government was not to take from some to give to others, but to protect the rights to life, liberty and property of all people.
The world political history of the last hundred years seems to have a lesson for us. The more a country ignores the above principles the more horrible the consequences, including civil turmoil, mass murder and starvation. The sadist thing, while this was going on, is that most of our leaders did not understand the connection between liberty and prosperity. Or, perhaps, did not care.
Is there something we can do now in Calaveras County to protect our human rights?
Perhaps there is. It is called a General Plan.
Right now the direction is to increase government control over the people and property in Calaveras County.
It doesn't have to be this way.
If enough people of good will would encourage our leaders to make this plan freedom friendly, it could happen. It's possible future generations could enjoy the same freedoms we sometimes take for granted.
Now is the time to learn the facts and contact your Supervisor!
