Social Media Threat Against Law Enforcement Leads To Arrest Of Sonora Man
Sonora, CA...On 12/26/14 the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by an Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), who passed on information related to a threat made by an individual on Social Media. The threat was a specific threat to harm law enforcement. The suspect was identified as eighteen year old Xavier Da’Von Maurice Benzel, a resident of East Sonora....
Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office Detectives initiated an investigation into the matter and found the specific threat on social media where Benzel posts a threat “ I might just dress in all black and go kill a white cop tonight” Detectives were able to meet with Mr. Benzel at his residence. He was then taken to and interviewed by Detectives at the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office. At the conclusion of the interview Mr. Benzel was placed under arrest for threats and threats involving violating ones civil rights.
Mr. Benzel was booked into the Tuolumne County Jail and his bail was set at 20,000 dollars (twenty thousand dollars). Mr. Benzel was able to raise bail and was released from custody.
Detectives are still completing follow up on various aspects of the investigation and no other information is available at this time.
