Welcome to the Country~by Charity Maness

You know you’ve moved to the country when:
• You’re little fuel efficient car is viewed as just another bump in the road
• Any flotation device is thought to be, and utilized as, a ‘fishin’ boat’
• There are all of five last names in a town boasting 2000 people
• The food you eat at a bbq was once grazing in someone’s front yard
• Anything green and mowable is considered lawn
• A broken toilet becomes an opportunity for someone with a green thumb
• A rusty old tractor is not trash…its eco lawn art
• Composting is just a new fangled word for manure spreading
• The population of the entire county is less than the city where you previously resided.....

• The seasonal stream on your new property has warning signs posted for ‘rattlers’
• Your beautiful pond full of Koi has become a sushi smorgasbord for raccoons
• ‘Y’all’ becomes part of your vocabulary
• You have to walk over an acre away to borrow a cup of sugar from your neighbor
• You learn there is no such thing as a fence that can hold in a cow
• Drivers training includes: avoidance of turkeys, deer, and cows, not kids, old people and dogs.
• A hoe works the dirt…not…
• A squeeze moves hay…not your sweetheart
• An emasculator fixes male animals…not a tough broad
• And a wench, well, a wench gets someone out of trouble…not into it.

Until next time… Welcome to the Country

P.S. You know you’ve moved to the country when your neighbor actually knows your name; when people care enough to stop and help out if you’re stuck on the side of the road; where American flags are flown with pride and support; where children grow in a community that cares and elderly are not forgotten.

I am so blessed to live in such a place.
