Please Reach Out to Help The McCullough Family...A Fundraiser is Also Set for June 8th

Arnold, CA...Matthew McCullough, an 11 year old boy who resides in Arnold and attends Avery Middle School, found out he had a brain tumor on February 28th, 2008. He was then taken to Stanford Medical Center for surgery and now his treatments. They removed the Tumor, but on Thursday March 6th, the family found out the Tumor was Cancer. The name of his Tumor is Medulloblastoma and it is malignant. He now needs to have Radiation and Chemotherapy. Matt started his six weeks of Radiation treatments on March 26th and then will have Chemotherapy, for about ten months afterwards. He hopes to feel better at the end of the treatments.....

He will have radiation, Mon-Fri, for six weeks. They may give him a few Chemotherapy cycles, during radiation, if he can handle them?

Matt will be receiving (30) Radiation treatments, to the Tumor area of the Brain and (10) Radiation treatments to rest of the Brain and Spinal Area. The Spinal Fluid test was negative, so the treatments to the rest of the Brain and Spinal area will be treated, with less of a dose (Thanks for all the prayers for that).
After Radiation, Matt will receive Chemotherapy, for about ten months.
Matt and his Mom will be staying in Fremont, during the six weeks and if Matt feels up to it, we will try and get him home to Arnold, for the weekends. Matt is really a homebody and loves to be home with his family and friends.

A letter from Matthew:

"Hi my name is Matthew, my friends call me Matt. I’m 11 years old and in the 6th grade. My favorite subject in school is Math. My hobbies are hunting and fishing with my Dad, camping with our family, playing baseball and football with my Brother Michael, skiing and wakeboarding with my Brother and Sister Hannah and helping my Mom out. I also like to go to A’s games, play cards, play video games, hang out with my friends and spend time with my dogs, Bear, Bo and Bella and my fish Beans, Rice and Coco.

I just finished playing Basketball for my school and was getting ready to start up Little League Baseball, my favorite sport, when I started getting sick.

My favorite baseball team, is the Oakland A’s and my favorite football teams, are the Oakland Raiders and Green Bay Packers.

On February 28th, 2008, I found out I had a Brain Tumor and I had to take a helicopter ride, to Stanford Hospital, for surgery.

My baseball coach said if I feel better, I can help him coach the pitchers this year. I was going to be one the pitchers on our team.

I’m not sure what’s really going on right now, but I trust my parents and the Doctors at Stanford, to make me better.

I’m a little worried about what people will think, when I lose my hair, but I have a bunch of friends who said they are going to shave their heads, when I do.

Love Matt"

There has been a website set up for Matthew McCullough. If you would like to visit this site please go to www.helpmatthew.com.

A note from the Friends of the McCullough’s:

"The web page has been created because many of you have expressed a desire to lend support to Matthew, Greg and Irene, Michael and Hannah, the McCullough family. We have set up an account for those of you who wish to donate to help offset some of the crippling expenses not covered by medical insurance. You may use the button on the website to make a secure contribution by credit card. Also, you may wish to add a comment to the Guest Book. Check back frequently for updates."

Their insurance is company is not paying enough. Mr. McCullough is not able to work as much as he needs to due to spending time with his son, travel to medical appointments and take care of their other two children.

Dear Viewers,

Please come together as a community and let's help this family in need and keep them in our thoughts and prayers daily.

Warmly,

ThePineTree.net

A Fundraiser is being held in honor of Matthew at the Cedar Center in Arnold on Sunday June 8h from 12pm~6pm. More info to come soon on details. Volunteers are needed to help out on that day.

Ralph Emerson, a member of the VUSD Board, is organizing this Fundraiser for Matthew and his family. It will include silent auctions, a prize drawing, live music, food and other activities. The first meeting for volunteers interested in helping out with the event will be held on Monday, April 14 at 6:30pm, at Avery Middle School. The community is encouraged to attend to find out how they can help. For more information call Emerson at 728-2965.

Jenny Baxter of Jennys Kitchen will be providing some of the food.

We were at Relay for Life all day on Saturday and were amazed at the support for Matthew and his family. All of the Avery kids had t-shirts for Matthew and were all out walking for him all day.

Matthew and his parents came later in the day to join the ceremonies. His classmates enjoyed walking him around the track. He was glowing from ear to ear.

We wish the McCullough Family well and will continue to keep them in our thoughts and prayers each day. Mrs. McCullough looked tired. I cannot imagine what type of pain she is going through. I wish there was something I could do for to ease her worry. Kim
