Many other vegetables and fruits can become a pickled or fermented product, either canned for a shelf-stable product for year-round enjoyment, or without canning to be enjoyed in the short term. Join UCCE Master Food Preservers of Amador/Calaveras Counties on June 15th as we present a class, “We can pickle that,” from 9am to 12noon at the Calaveras Senior Center, 956 Mountain Ranch Road in San Andreas. 06/07/2024 - Arts of Bear Valley Pop-up Summer Show in Downtown Murphys Murphys, CA...Murphys, known for its vibrant art scene, will host Arts of Bear Valley's first art exhibit and sale in the downtown area. For ten days in June (June 7 through June 16), eighteen artists will fill Ruby Parlor #46 (Angele O'Conner Hall)—the site of the Native Daughters of the Golden West—on Main Street with remarkable art.
Nancy Macomber paintings are influenced by her long experience as a quilter. She will join 18 artists to exhibit her art work at the art show in downtown Murphys June 7 through June 16.
Larisa Stevenson will show her delicate pottery and whimsical ceramic sculptures along with 18 other artists Ruby Parlor #46 (Angele O'Conner Hall) in downtown Murphys June 7 through June 16.
The free exhibit offers the public a unique opportunity to explore and appreciate a diverse collection of artworks. You’ll find original paintings in watercolor, oil, acrylic, pastels; mixed media as well as high-quality prints and cards; ceramic pieces, including totems, sculptures, and handmade pottery. Additionally, award-winning photography will be on display. Of course, all artwork is available for you to purchase.
Arts of Bear Valley is an association of local Mother Lode artists. Their works have won numerous awards, appeared in museums and been collected by art lovers worldwide.
Artwork purchases support local artists as well as the AOBV’s community service mission to develop, promote and enhance the visual arts in our rural area. AOBV funds art appreciation and education through programs for children and scholarships for high school seniors. They co-host the Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee’s Professional Art Show in collaboration with the Calaveras County Arts Council.

05/27/2024 - Memorial Day Concert – Calaveras Community Band Murphys, CA...All are invited to attend a free Memorial Day Concert, performed by the Calaveras Community Band. The Concert will be held on Monday, May 27, 2024, at 1:00 p.m., at the Murphys Community Park, in honor of the brave men and women who have served, and continue to serve, our country.
Bring your friends and family, young and old, two-legged and four-legged, to Murphys Park to enjoy live music on this special day. The Band will be performing many different pieces, from patriotic favorites like America the Beautiful and The Liberty Bell, to oldies but goodies such as Stardust and Blue Moon. There will also be some more modern pieces like Crazy Little Thing Called Love and an Abba medley. A little something for everyone!
The Calaveras Community Band traces its history to the days following the Gold Rush. Men would brush away the grime of the mines, put on a uniform, grab their horns and entertain the crowds at many public functions. Creating music brought extra meaning to their lives and provided a counterpoint to the stresses of the day. In those times we were known as the Angels Camp Miners Band, the Murphys Independent Cornet Band, and dozen other names as the years passed.
The Calaveras Community Band continues with this honored tradition. While most of today's members aren't gold miners, we come from many walks of life. The age range of our group often nearly spans a century itself. But the spirit remains the same – we are people who love to play, performing for those who enjoy listening. Music is a very important part of our lives and playing in the band is a magical time.
The Calaveras Community Band is a non-profit corporation and your donations are tax deductible under Federal and State laws as a 501(c)3 tax exempt organization. The CCB is funded in part by a grant from the Calaveras Community Foundation. These funds help us purchase new music, cover concert venue fees, and publicity.
