Murphys, CA...Often, living in a small town or even visiting one for that matter, can elicit an impending sense of island fever. Murphys, and by association Calaveras County, have become a sort of mecca, a shining example of hospitality, great food, wine and shopping planted smack dab in the middle of the Sierra Foothills; geographically a bit stranded from the luxuries of larger cities where diversity rules. Within this little jewel of a town, at Magnolia Café we strive to punch things up a little and to provide a subtle departure from the confines of our little island. With a casual atmosphere, friendly service and fresh food made from scratch, we open each day with the intention of impressing our customers, both local and traveler, regular or new comer....

Posted by: John_Hamilton on 06/23/2012 01:54 PM
Sonora, CA...We had the pleasure of talking with young entrepreneur Rachael Shevlin who is the new owner of Doc's Smoked BBQ and Burgers on Stockton Road in Sonora. She is just 22 and purchased the popular restaurant recently when she was still only 21 years old. While young chronologically she already has 8 years of restaurant industry experience. She also attended the Columbia College Culinary program and is putting experience and local education to great use. She worked and learned all of the Smokey and BBQ'ey secrets of Doc's for a year and a half before she took the plunge into ownership. She plans on keeping the menu that has attracted legions of loyal followers the same. She has added a salad as a small offering to segment of the population that is more leafy greens inclined. Other than that it is just polishing and refining a proven concept....

Susie’s Diner in Arnold - a “Wheel” Cool Place to Eat!~By the PineTree Pedaler, Brett Loring
Posted by: Kim_Hamilton on 11/02/2008 09:12 PM
Arnold, CA....Motor on up to the newest old-fashioned diner in town! My son had heard there was a new place in town to secure a good old-fashioned ice cream cone. That was enough excuse to venture out on a lazy Sunday afternoon. We struck it rich at Susie’s! He chose a double-scoop of mint chip on a plain cone from the list of flavors that includes bubble gum, birthday cake and chocolate chip cookie dough. Although I relaxed in the dining room....
