Both Parties - Gerontocracy Rules
The old world political puppet masters are at work, both hope to win the presidency.
Both do not represent any sentiment of the people as Bernie Sanders did.;
But the Dem gerontocracy anointed H Clinton, and Biden.
The GOP has a billionaire welfare problem , not enough tax cuts for them, when most pay no income taxes.
It is a sad story in America, how political parties refuse to listen to the people they are supposed to lead.
Bernie Sanders was on track, supported by a huge majority of dems, independents , even republicans. He had raised the most $ , all from small donors . He easily could of won against the con don, but no,the likes of Jim Cliburn, ( D SC) a major party driver said NO. Meanwhile now, the GOP is good with a convicted rapist, and Felon with 34 felony counts. He stole, secret docs, and no doubt sold them, also gave then at the start to Putin.

And how old is Bernie Sanders?
I liked so.e of his ideas too, but he wanted to give money to those that really didn't deserve handouts.
You started off talking about today's political parties being run by old people(gerontocracy). That has been the way things have been done for thousands of years.
Elders have always been looked upon as being "wise". This made many to be elected as leaders of a tribe, or group.
Electability is also based on images of strength, beauty, or bravery.
A leader is one who inspires those that follow them.
It's what an election brings out in the candidates.
