Mark Twain St. Josephs Hospital Awards Community Grant To Fight Childhood Obesity Today |

San Andreas, CA...Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital today awarded an $18,475 Catholic Healthcare West Community Grant to the Take It To Heart Foundation, a local not-for-profit organization whose mission is to promote a heart-healthy lifestyle in the Mother Lode. The award will be used to implement their ‘Family Fit’ project in all Calaveras and Tuolumne County elementary schools. The ‘Family Fit’ project helps families establish healthier eating habits, live a more active lifestyle, increase fitness and self-esteem, and have fun together. ....

“We’re starting New, You can too” is the Calaveras County Library System theme as the library’s automated circulation system is upgraded on January 25, 2008. Library Director Maurie Hoekstra says the current system is now over 12 years old and lacks the functionality available with new systems today. It has reached “end of life” and is being phased out by the vendor.... |

San Andreas, CA...The Calaveras County Planning Commission is back in action on Thursday January 17th, this time for an evening meeting at 7pm. Oak Canyon Ranch is back on the agenda as a continuance from the January 10th meeting. This project is located on both sides of Little John Road about 1 mile south of Hwy 4 in Copperopolis and is a total of 3214.9 acres. The full agenda is enclosed....

Mokelumne Hill, CA...We were passed along some news that cuts are ahead for local Ambulance service from American Legion due to hard economic times. The Mokelumne Hill Unit will be phased out completely and the hours of an additional Unit will be curtailed. The call volumes have been lower than expected so they feel cuts are necessary...

You hear a loud thump against one of your windows. Then you look outside and see a dead, dying or stunned bird on the ground. Birds fly into windows because they may not see transparent window glass for what it is - a solid barrier. Or, they may be intoxicated from eating fermented fruit.....
