Letter to CCWD Board ~ Letter to the Editor by Robert Watson

Vallecito, CA... I am a property owner in Vallecito (20 years) and have some comments re the increase in rates. Prior lawsuit. Prior boards loss $900,000 in a lawsuit (Mid 90's)that should have never gone to trial. The suing party had been on the Water Board. Shows that the Board has made bad decisions in the past and seems to continue to do so. Salaries: Most recent GM salary was around $200,000. Way out of line for the job. What justifies a salary at that level for a small water company...

Current GM salary over $165,000, Again, seems high considering the cash problems the District has.

Board member benefits
Has the Board considered cutting their salaries and benefits? I understand that Board members receive $125 per meeting (with a limit on the number of meetings paid) and that amount goes up 5% each year. What about the other districts that receive little or more likely no pay or benefits.

Finance director
You essentially have two finance directors. First one, apparently was not a good fit for the position, so another was hired and the first one was kept. Both are earning over $100,000.

New building
The new building while it is nice, was it necessary knowing that your lift stations and infrastructure was in need of replacement? Couldn't the construction be put off for a year or so?

Why should we pay for these things? It is this board and prior boards that have spent the money recklessly. Make a plan to get out of this problem. Private companies would arrive at a plan.
