Posted by: Charity_Maness on 09/20/2010 07:42 AM
With September being National Preparedness Month, Peggy, a 24 year resident of Calaveras County, took this opportunity to share her wealth of knowledge regarding Family Emergency Preparedness with the people of Calaveras County. Recently Peggy gave a two part series presentation on Channel 7 on how you can be prepared for an emergency. “Everyone should be prepared to stay independent for at least 72 hours.” She stresses that while we have government agencies prepared for a multitude of impending disasters that it may take awhile to “rev up their response teams.”

Our Video Chat with 10,000 Girls' &, One of this Year's Nominees for CNN "Hero of the Year"... Viola Vaughn

Posted by: Kim_Hamilton on 11/24/2008 10:01 PM
Angels Camp, CA....We had the great pleasure of sitting down with lovely Viola Vaughn, one of this year's nominees for CNN Hero of the Year. She was visiting Angels Camp World Mercantile on Monday afternoon taking a break from the CNN show taping in Los Angeles to come to Buttercup farm's Angels Camp World Mercantile. Viola is a native of Detroit, Michigan, and now lives in Senagal, Africa. She had worked in Africa for most of her life and considered it home. She decided to move back, after the sudden death of her 26 year old daughter who left five grandchildren to care for. She was searching for peace, "so she and her husband returned there to raise their new brood and "watch the coconut trees." Life had other plans for her. Shortly after moving to Senegal in 2000 her husband also passed away. Out of that grief and with the insistence of some local girls who wanted to improve their lives 10,000 Girls was born. Today, her "10,000 Girls" program is helping girls succeed in school and learn business skills. "10,000 Girls" runs a sewing workshop and the girls export their handmade dolls and household linens overseas. Angels Camp World Mercantile is the only store in the USA you can you purchase this fabulous handcrafted product line....

The Arts Council has really done a great job this year. They have had filled venue after filled venue as their rolling music show has moved from park to park. Posted by: thepinetree on 08/04/2008 12:59 AM
Angels Camp, CA....A special event was held for 13 year old, Marilyn Sanders on Saturday in the lovely Utica Park. She was recently diagnosed with Osteomylitis, an aggressive bone disease which she is fighting bravely with grace. She was hospitalized for over a week at the children's hospital in Oakland, and has now returned home. She does still need to return to Oakland weekly for tests, physical therapy etc. She is keeping a positive attitude and was in good spirits when Kim spoke with her on Saturday. It was a very well attended and busy event, especially since it was put together on a very short schedule....
