Arnold is an attraction for many visitors due to the many recreation opportunities, such as Big Trees State Park, Bear Valley Ski Resort, Lake Alpine, Ebbetts Pass, and more.

Rail Road Flat, CA...Smoke output seems to be lessening and acreage has been holding at 18.2 for the last hour. (update) Firefighters are at scene of the 8 acre vegetation fire with moderate rate of spread. 2 structures are threatened. Near Summit Level Road and Swiss Ranch Road Rail Road Flat (Calaveras County)

Washington, DC...When Vice President Harris and I took office, our nation had just seen the largest increase in murders ever recorded during the previous Administration. Immediately, we got to work to make communities safer. Today, new data confirms that our efforts are working and violent crime is at a 50-year low. An independent organization of police chiefs from across our nation’s biggest cities released data showing that violent crime fell across every category in the first half of 2024. Homicides are down 17% – building on the largest-ever decline in the homicide rate nationally last year.

Meet at the Bear Valley Adventure Company at 10am
Wear sturdy, closed-toed shoes or boots for hiking
A small backpack or similar with water, snacks, and sunscreen is recommended
Update: the plan is to carpool halfway up Highway 207 and hike the beginning portion of the “Upper Rings” trail, possibly into lower Round Valley. Approximately 2 miles round trip with 300 feet of elevation gain.

Canyon Fire 20% Contained & Holding at 85 Acres

Tuolumne, CA...The fire remains at 85 acres. Crews have hose lays around the fire perimeter and are working to complete handline on all sides. The majority of the fire is in steep and difficult terrain which is challenging hand crew progress. In areas that are inaccessible, rotary and fixed-wing aircraft are being used.

Please be advised that PG&E will be removing hazard trees to protect power lines from 6:30 AM to 5:30 PM on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at 1637 Rawhide Drive, 1533 Rawhide Drive and 1590 Brandy Flat Court, Arnold.
