It's Almost Whiskerino Time....This Saturday, April 30th!~Photos & Video of 2010 Enclosed!
Angels Camp, CA....The Friends of the Calaveras County Fair are hosting a Pre-Fair Dinner Dance and local mustache display. The Whiskerino Dinner Dance is planned for Saturday, April 30, 2011. The Whiskerino is the official kick off event leading up to the Calaveras County Fair & Jumping Frog Jubilee May 19 – 22, 2011. The Whiskerino has a fine historic tradition in Calaveras County. Although the Whiskerino dates back to the 1940s it was revitalized in the 1950’s and held for the next forty years. In 1955 Bob Petithome, Angels Camp resident, won the award for best full beard. He says the best part of the event was seeing “all the slick chins” try to grow beards.......
Beard Winner John Broglio is on the Left..But what a good looking group!! Over 40 photos above and video is enclosed...
The second Whiskerino of the 21st century will host the traditional competitions of days gone by. Men may compete in the following categories: full beard, trimmed beard, and fancy mustache. A costume contest for all ages, including awards for the best dressed couple, family, male and female will be part of the festivities. Contestants wishing to enter any of the categories need only to show up to the event prepared to vie for the title.
Two tables decorated and served by the Miss Calaveras and Saddle Queen 2011 contestants will be auctioned off at the beginning of the evening. Musical entertainment will be by Singing Steve Johnson and Danny Elzig of the Renegades.
The Whiskerino will be on April 30 at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds in Mark Twain Hall. The event will begin at 5:00 p.m. Ticket prices are $20 per person or $150 per table of 8. The price of the ticket includes admission, dinner and entertainment. Tickets are available now at the Fairground Office or from any of the Friends of the Fair board members.
