All Day Repairs Completed on Hwy 4 Over Ebbetts Pass in Time for 43rd Annual Death Ride
Markleeville, CA..The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has reopened Ebbetts Pass/State Route 4 (SR-4) after completing highway maintenance work this week to repair potholes, shoulders, and pavement surfaces in advance of the 43rd Annual Death Ride cycling event taking place on Saturday, July 13, 2024, in Alpine County.

The work was imperative to ensure the safety of the traveling public and cyclists in advance of the annual Death Ride cycling event. Caltrans maintenance crews used over 48 tons of asphalt in four days of work to repair six large areas of failed pavement, and eight potholes along Ebbetts Pass. Caltrans will be sweeping and making final preparations for the roadway prior to the Death Ride and would like to thank the traveling public and cyclists for their patience during construction this past week.

For the 43rd Annual Death Ride, Caltrans will have full highway closures in place on State Route 89 (SR-89) from Markleeville to the SR-89/SR-4 junction from 5:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and on Ebbetts Pass/SR-4 from Markleeville to Lake Alpine from 5:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Caltrans will have changeable message signs in place alerting motorists of the highway closures and ask the traveling public to avoid these highway corridors over the weekend and use alternate routes whenever possible. For the latest highway conditions, visit quickmap.dot.ca.gov and for the safety of our workers and other motorists, please Be Work Zone Alert.
07:30 AM - 03:00 PM Furry Friends Fashionista Week and Trunk Sale
Next month, the Humane Society of Tuolumne County is hosting our annual fundraising sale from July 9th-14th in the conference room at our shelter facility. This year’s event, “Furry Friends Fashionista Week and Trunk Sale,” features a large collection of clothing, shoes, and accessories, including many brand new items and some designer labels. In addition to apparel, we will also offer a variety of new and gently used home goods, pet supplies, and more.

All profits from the sale will directly fund the care of the animals in our shelter and sustain the essential programs the Humane Society of Tuolumne County provides for pets and their owners in Tuolumne County and surrounding areas. This is a fun way to support our organization while enjoying a well-curated shopping experience. Mark your calendars and join us for a tail-wagging good time!

06:30 PM - 11:30 PM CAKE & Special Guest Y La Bamba and DakhaBrakha at Ironstone
Murphys, CA...The Sacramento, CA based band that continues to maintain a wealth of originality. If Hank Williams Sr. and Sly Stone were having a party together, and they played AC/DC records backwards… that would be this band. CAKE’s adherence to their original guiding principles has only grown stronger over the years. Originally formed as a somewhat antagonistic answer to grunge, CAKE’s democratic processes, defiant self-reliance, and lucid yet ever-inventive music has made them a nation-state unto themselves, with no evident peers in sound or perspective.

In addition to writing, arranging, producing, and performing their own music, they have taught themselves to engineer their recording projects in their Sacramento-based solar-powered studio, which regularly generates more power than is needed to run it, causing the building’s electrical meter to run in reverse. CAKE’s most recent album, Showroom of Compassion, debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart and was touted as “deadpan brilliance” by The New Yorker Magazine.

While seamlessly blending many genres and influences, CAKE truly issues forth a sound and vision unlike any other band. The band is currently at work on their ninth album due for release during autumn 2024. Additionally, there will be a limited edition “Live from Folsom” album issued during summer 2024.

06:30 PM Coffis Brothers at Brice Station Vineyards
Murphys, CA..."It's all-American music," says The Coffis Brothers’ co-frontman, Kellen, about the band's 2022 release, Turn My Radio Up. "There's rock, blues, acoustic folk, and country in there. As music fans, we go all the way back to the beginning — to pioneers like Buddy Holly and the Everly Brothers — but we also look to artists like the Eagles and Tom Petty for influence. That's our playbook."

Recorded at producer Tim Bluhm's home studio in Marin County and at 25th Street Recording in Oakland CA, Turn My Radio Up is an album for car stereos, hazy afternoons, and long highways. Jangling guitar leads and front-porch folk songs share equal space with heartland rock anthems and campfire-worthy Americana ballads, all dreamt into existence by a group of road warriors who wear their West Coast stripes proudly. This is honest, heartfelt roots-rock with an emphasis on the roots.

With the aptly-titled Turn My Radio Up, The Coffis Brothers salute the glory days of the FM dial while planting their flag firmly in the present. A loose, limber album that showcases the full range of the band's abilities, the record bounces between full-throttle anthems like "Find Out the Hard Way" and acoustic folk songs like "Every Day." Along the way, the Californians make room for soulful, piano-driven standouts ("It's So Easy"), atmospheric Americana ("Feel This Free"), and tongue-in-cheek twang ("Ramona"), with brothers Jamie and Kellen Coffis trading vocal and songwriting duties throughout.

Jamie and Kellen Coffis were raised in the Santa Cruz Mountains of northern California. Their mother was a children's musician who often recruited the boys to join her onstage, instilling in them an appreciation for energetic, catchy songs that focused on melody, mood, and message. "We learned how to sing three-part harmonies with Mom at a young age," remembers Jamie, who later grew into an accomplished keyboardist as his brother sharpened his chops on guitar. When the two began writing songs together in 2007, they found that their shared upbringing — including the music they'd heard on the radio airwaves as kids — had left a lasting mark on their artistic sensibilities.
