Billy is Your Calaveras County Animal Services Pet of the Week

San Andreas, CA…Meet Billy, a handsome medium-haired young adult. Super friendly, this energetic little guy loves people and is very affectionate. He runs up to and greets caretakers with a loud purr and leg rubs. When you join him on the floor, he revs up his motor and stays by your side. Billy really behaves like an overgrown kitten, wanting to gently play and keeps his claws in at all times. His favorite toy is a feather on a string but given a choice between the feather and being petted, he’ll choose being cuddled every time. Billy is one of five abandoned cats that a kindly woman was feeding. However, this woman is now moving to an assisted living facility and her friends have brought the cats to the shelter.

As with all cats available for adoption, Billy is up-to-date on his routine vaccinations and has been micro-chipped. Since he is already neutered, he can go home with you today!

Come visit Billy, impound nos. AO51665, along with other cats and dogs awaiting their forever homes at Calaveras County Animal Services, 901 Jeff Tuttle Drive, San Andreas (in government center by the new jail). Animal Services is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday – Saturday (closed for lunch from 1-2 p.m.).

For more information about Billy, please email Animal Services volunteer Cynthia at, Kathy at or call Animal Services directly at 754-6509. Please refer to Billy’s impound number when making inquiries.

Currently, the Calaveras shelter remains open for visitors wishing to adopt. We are, however, limiting viewing to one person at a time in order to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Please understand there may be a wait for you to view the shelter animals, many of which still await their forever homes during this pandemic. Adoptable animals may also be viewed on the web at and on the Calaveras County Animal Services Facebook page.

Volunteers are also very much needed. Whether you can give a little time or a lot, we would appreciate your help caring for shelter animals or in the office. No experience necessary; we will provide training and match you to your interests. Please call 754-6509 for more information.
Animal Services now has a Fee Flexibility Program!

When the dog or cat population at the shelter is at 80% or above capacity, the total adoption fee will be 50% off––reduced to $40 for dogs and $30 for cats. The adoption fee for cats who arrive at the shelter already altered will be $10. With the 55-5-5 Program, any time an adopter is 55 or older and adopts any pet over 5 years old, the adoption fee is $5.
