Angels Camp, CA...Given the dramatic wildfire threat our communities face this year, PG&E is taking immediate action to ensure the safety of our customers, their neighborhoods and the surrounding community. PG&E Vegetation Management Crews are taking urgent action to create even greater safety clearances between trees and power lines in neighborhoods and communities that face the most extreme wildfire-threat. To support this effort, PG&E will be using helicopters to patrol electric lines in areas of Amador, Calaveras and Tuolumne counties that are in extreme fire threat areas defined by the CPUC High Fire Threat map.

Angels Camp, CA...The Calaveras County Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with the Calaveras County Association of Realtors will be hosting a Candidate’s Debate Night for Supervisorial and Sheriff Candidates. This event will take place on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at the Bret Harte Theatre located at 323 South Main Street in Angels Camp. Candidates will be available for the Meet and Greet at 5:00pm followed by the debate from 6:00pm-8:00pm. Supervisorial candidates will participate in a debate format while the Sheriff candidate participates in a Q&A.

Lee D Glenn, 60 of Railroad Flat Passed Away in Rail Road Flat Road Collision

Rail Road Flat, CA...On Saturday, September 15, 2018, at an unknown time Glenn was riding his motorcycle south on Railroad Flat Rd, south of Sierra Oaks Dr. at an unknown speed. As the roadway curved to the left, Glenn failed to follow the roadway and allowed his vehicle to drive off the right roadway edge. The vehicle struck a tree and both the motorcycle and Glenn came to rest at the bottom of a steep culvert, 10-12 feet below the roadway edge. Glenn was reported as missing person to the Calaveras County Sheriff Department and the CHP and the Sheriff Department searched an area south of the collision scene based off of GPS from Glenn's cell phone. The area was searched on Monday night and Tuesday afternoon. CHP airplane, Air-21, was used to search from the sky. All searches were unsuccessful. The collision was discovered on September 18, 2018, at 5:30 pm by a resident checking their mailbox.

Sacramento, CA...Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. on September 17th issued the following statement regarding the death of Sacramento County Sheriff’s Deputy Mark Stasyuk: “Anne and I extend our deepest condolences to Deputy Stasyuk’s family, loved ones and colleagues and ask all Californians to keep them in your thoughts during this difficult time.” Deputy Stasyuk, 27, was fatally shot September 17th while responding to a disturbance at a business in Rancho Cordova. Another Sacramento County Sheriff’s Deputy was injured during the incident and is recovering.

Copperopolis, CA...Saddle Creek Golf Resort will hold the 2st Annual Military Salute Benefit Tournament on Saturday, September 22 in Copperopolis. All proceeds from the tournament will benefit four non-profit organizations that support Veterans, active military personnel and their families. The four recipients of the funds raised this year will go to the Silver Paw Ranch in San Andreas, Copperopolis VFW Post, San Andreas VFW Post and Sonora VFW Post. Last year the event raised $13,000.

Another Successful Cleanup For Foothill Conservancy Volunteers on the Moke

Jackson, CA...A Successful River Cleanup! Twenty seven volunteers joined forces to clean along the Electra Rd/Big Bar section of the Mokelumne River on Saturday, September 15. Approximately 465 pounds of trash and recyclables were removed along a 3.5 mile section of river, making our local recreation sites healthier for people, fish and wildlife. This year’s most unusual find was a red patent leather platform high heel shoe. The event culminated with barbecue hotdogs and other goodies for everyone. Foothill Conservancy’s annual Mokelumne River Cleanups have been held for 27 years.

Caltrans Has Completed Accelerated Repairs on State Route 108 in Tuolumne County Due to SB 1 Funds

Tuolumne County, CA...Caltrans has replaced four lane miles of pavement on eastbound and westbound State Route 108 from Lyons Dam Road to the community of Long Barn, due to funds received from Senate Bill 1 (SB 1), the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017. “The completion of this project will benefit residents in the Long Barn area, as well as travelers and the businesses in that region that rely on tourism dollars to bolster their local economy,” said Caltrans Director Laurie Berman. “We’re just scratching the surface with these initial SB 1 projects.”

New Regional Director Brings Research, Consulting Experience to California Trout’s Sierra Headwaters Office

Mammoth Lakes, CA...Non-profit fish research and advocacy group California Trout has hired a new director for its Sierra Headwaters Region. Dr. Eric Huber, a recent graduate of UC Berkeley's doctoral program in Environmental Science, Policy, and Management, will lead CalTrout’s projects throughout the Sierra Nevada region. Huber’s work will mainly focus on CalTrout’s Sierra Meadows research and restoration project, collaborating with a diverse group of partner organizations to restore high-altitude meadow ecosystems. The goal, said Huber, is “to achieve multi-benefit outcomes, including improved habitat for plants and wildlife, sequestration of greenhouse gases, and a safer and more reliable water source for Californians.”

Martell, CA...From the Amador Sheriff's Dept..."On September 17th, 2018 at around 2:44PM, Joseph Homer Modrall, age 34 of Sacramento and Gary Wayne Modrall, age 69 of Sacramento, decided to go shopping for a victim at Save Mart Grocery Store in Martell. While Gary Modrall waited outside in the parking lot, Joseph Modrall entered Save Mart and snatched a purse from a womans shopping cart. That's when the plan fell apart.

Valley Springs, CA...On 9-17-18 at approx. 0815 hours CCSO Deputies responded to a residence in the 6000 block of Highway 26 for reports of an altercation between a male and two females. Upon arrival Deputies spoke with two females (age 21 and 22) who stated they were visiting a male, (s) Nicholas Kohring (age 28 of Valley Springs), at this location and had arrived here after being at a bar out of county the night before. The two females reportedly were prevented from leaving by (s) Kohring who also made threats towards them.

President Trump on Additional Tariffs on $267 Billion of Imports from China

Washington, DC...Today, following seven weeks of public notice, hearings, and extensive opportunities for comment, I directed the United States Trade Representative (USTR) to proceed with placing additional tariffs on roughly $200 billion of imports from China. The tariffs will take effect on September 24, 2018, and be set at a level of 10 percent until the end of the year. On January 1, the tariffs will rise to 25 percent. Further, if China takes retaliatory action against our farmers or other industries, we will immediately pursue phase three, which is tariffs on approximately $267 billion of additional imports.

Moderate Injuries to Sonora Man in Tuolumne Road Collision

Sonora, CA...On Friday, September 14, 2018, at approximately 8:00 PM, 22 year old Tuolumne resident, Savannah McNeil, was driving a 2005 Ford 500, stopped westbound, within the westbound traffic lane of Tuolumne Rd, in preparation to turn left into a private driveway west of Morris Road,yielding to oncoming eastbound traffic. 21 year old Sonora Resident, Joseph Davis, was driving a 2014 Toyota Tacoma westbound, in the westbound traffic lane of Tuolumne Rd, at a speed in excess of 40 mph, approaching to the rear of McNeil's vehicle. 50 year old Los Banos resident, Louis Mendez was driving a 2005 GMC Sierra eastbound, within the eastbound traffic lane of Tuolumne Rd, at approximately 55 mph approaching the area McNeil from the west. For unknown reasons, Davis failed to observe McNeil's vehicle stopped directly ahead in his path of travel. Due to Davis' unsafe speed, the right front of Davis' vehicle collided with the left rear of McNeil's vehicle.

In response to the recent and dramatically increasing wildfire threat in our state, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) is accelerating its vegetation management work in Tuolumne and Calaveras Counties to further reduce the risk of wildfire and keep our customers, their families and our communities safe. According to CAL FIRE and the National Interagency Fire Center, in 2018, as of late August, more than 5,500 wildfires have already burned over 1.4 million acres.

Washington, DC...(AP) Brett Kavanaugh and the woman accusing him of a decades-old sexual assault both indicated Monday that they would be willing to testify to a Senate panel as the confirmation of President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee shifted from seemingly painless to problematic. Kavanaugh was seen arriving at the White House, with no immediate reason given, while all 10 Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee wrote the panel’s Republican chairman asking him to postpone a scheduled Thursday vote on the nominee to give the FBI more time to investigate.
