PG&E is so large that it has become impossible to manage. All their meters can turn off individual power individually. Why not just deenergize by zip code instead of by county???

Why deenergize Angels Camp, Jackson or Sonora. Pioneer, Arnold, Twain Harte make sense but the urban centers??

Just Idiotic

Why don't you all read a little about how the grid works. The same people that thinks their food comes from the back of the grocery store are the same ones that think their power comes from just the pole by their house.

listening to people during this outage shows how uneducated people are in common sense. I'm not giving PGE a pass by no means but everybody wants everything easy and convenient for THEM! and nobody else. Look at the system they manage, the expansiveness of it. All those small utilities listed in the vote section have no idea on how run a large system and the sheer dynamics of running a high mtn system vs. a valley system is night and day.

By the Way, Southern California Edison was shutting power off also. Where was the outcry for that? OH thats right, that company has been doing that for years. Not one peep about them

Everybody needs to grow up and become responsible for themselves.

Also, why hasn't anybody bitched about the loss of cell phone service during the outage....AT&T needs to be taken over the state, blah blah blah.

PG&E lineman and crews are some of the best. It is the PG&E corp structure that is the problem. We would be better off it Duke Energy bought the whole thing. Keep all the line personal, wipe away the entire company structure, shutter the headquarters in SF.

Amen. The fools that utter gibberish about how bad PGE is do much more damage to our community.

Sorry that was not a reasonable comment, However it does demonstrate how passive folks have become to the PG&E arrogance and there failure of epic proportions to maintain their system and provide uninterrupted power to there ratepayers. There execution of duty must be challenged as well as an audit of the infrastructure upgrading and management.

Jackson, Sutter Hill and Valley Springs stayed on through the outage. Figure that one out.

The big comment said it all, no one is ready to take over such a task, PGE may have their faults but I'll put my money on them anytime, they are a great company, I don't work for them but they have the answers to fixing things on time, it may not be your time, we need to learn how to take care of ourselves more, I didn't like the blackout, but survived, and besides I didn't have the tv on, and went to bed earlier, a win win for the body, soul, and mind!

The company is failing. It can't provide the goods it promised and is contracted to provide leaving it's customers to provide for themselves at an additional costs which they refuse to absorb. Time for a takeover to a company better managed with innovated ideas for easier solutions instead of chasing it's tail round & round.

The State of Kalifornia has put a HUGE burden on PG&E to take care of its own shortcomings (i.e. forest management, etc.). Imagine demanding the utility company to be responsible for acts of Nature. 93-miles per hour winds can do damage on any infrastructure. The only choice the utility company has is to shut off power to minimize its own liability. PG&E has so many requirements put on it by the state such as rebates, providing billing services and infrastructure for "green" utility companies, etc. I own a home in Idaho. My electricity costs one-third per KWh as it does in this state. But in that case, you're dealing with a decent state.
