7 Pieces of Fake News About the Latest U.S. Climate Report
by Bjorn Lomborg, an environmentalist who believes in Climate Change. But he is not an alarmist. Because of that, he is one of the few worth taking seriously.
Here are the 7 ways the media misled you about the report:

              1. Climate scientist Michael Mann appeared on CNN and NPR talking about “unprecedented weather extremes.” The only problem with that is that, according to the report itself, we are not experiencing “unprecedented weather extremes.” Lomborg writes…
Actually, the assessment, and science, tell a different story. “Drought statistics over the entire contiguous US have declined,” the report finds, reminding us that “the Dust Bowl era of the 1930s remains the benchmark drought and extreme heat event.”

              2. This is also true with respect to flooding. The report did not “attribute changes in flooding to anthropogenic [human] influence nor report detectable changes in flooding magnitude, duration or frequency.”

              3. All those screaming headlines in the New York Times and on CNN about Climate Change shrinking the economy by ten percent are wildly misleading…
Actually, the UN’s climate scenarios envision US GDP per capita will more than triple by the end of this century, so this ten percent reduction would come from an economy 300 percent larger than it is today.

              4. But even the misleading ten percent figure is “dodgy,” as Lomborg puts it:
It assumes that temperatures will increase about 14 degrees Fahrenheit by the end of the century [2100]. This is unlikely. The US climate assessment itself estimates that, with no significant climate action, American temperatures will increase by between 5 and 8.7 degrees. Using the high estimate of 8.7 degrees, the [GDP] damage would be only half as big, at 5 percent.

And keep in mind that five percent is coming out of a 300 percent increase.

              5. What’s more, that 8.7 degree figure is also suspect:
The 8.7-degree warming estimate is unrealistically pessimistic. This stems from an extreme high-emission scenario that expects almost the entire world to revert to using massive amounts of coal: a five-fold increase from today.

Additionally, the only way that 8.7 degree prediction comes true is if the world burns more fossil fuel than is “plausibly available for use, according to one study.”

              6. The biggest flaw in that ten percent hysteria, however, comes from the fact that a full two-thirds of it is based on an estimate of how many people will die due to increasing temperatures. Lomborg punctures this notion using common sense:
This assumes that even if temperatures were to increase by 14 degrees, people would die in masses, ignoring the fact that people have been shown to adjust over time to temperature changes. Then, too, over the 80 years until 2100, people can make many additional changes that reduce this risk, from getting air conditioners to changing how they build structures.

Humans are extraordinarily capable of adapting to their environments, and technology has only made this easier and ridiculously affordable. There is simply no reason these people have to die.

Moreover, in the unlikely event the world’s temperature increases by 14 degrees, this would mean that cold and frigid areas would become more tolerable for human habitation. Even better, these areas could become more conducive for farming and food production.

              7. Fighting Climate Change is more wasteful than adapting to it:
The Paris Agreement target of 3.6 degrees [cooler] would cost some $134 trillion, much more than the associated climate benefits. Such prescriptions for climate change are worse than the disease.

I also recommend Lomborg’s book Cool It.

I hope no one believes this nonsense. Any analysis that posits that the answer to climate change is that everyone can buy air conditioners is like the work of a 4th grader.

If we get rain or snow it's going to be a wet winter.

If we don't get rain or snow it will be a dry winter.

Nothing new about that. The question is kind of lame.

And as we in the developed countries adapt to higher temperatures, how will the permafrost in Canada and Siberia adapt and avoid melting and releasing the tons of CO2 currently trapped there? Maybe the Finns have a solution similar to their raking of the forests to avoid catastrophic fires.

Anyone tempted to follow Lomborg into his fantasy land should Google Bjorn Lomborg and the book Cool It. It has been debunked like all other climate change denier nonsense.

Democrats have the House majority they need to impeach President Trump in 2019, but they still don’t have something very important to the equation: hard evidence of an impeachable offense.
Friday evening on the radio, LevinTV host Mark Levin, pointed out that there’s a lot of speculation flying around about what Trump supposedly did, but there’s not a whole lot of evidence behind any of it.
Levin played recent television appearances by Sen. Ben Cardin, D-Md., Rep. Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., and Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., in which each speculated about the president’s supposed dealings with Moscow or the status of special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation. Levin then went on to highlight the lack of proof to support the various Russia theories.
“They’re just trying to create this narrative,” Levin concluded. “It’s the big lie, and they’re good at it. They repeat it and repeat it and repeat it, and the media help them.”

I appreciate you posting the link to the information you are posting. Thank you for that.

But really?! Mark Levin? He is as biased as they come. I hope he is not the only source you use to keep up with what is happening in the Trump investigation.

IMO, we do not yet have proof of Trump's personal role in the Russian collusion because Mueller has not yet released his report. That report will connect the dots and show the American people the true picture. But the dots are already plain to see. If Levin chooses not to connect them, that's his choice. But anyone who cares to can see where the evidence leads without the full Mueller report.

You keep posting this but it doesn't even make sense. Mice do not belong to a socialized society involving mouse traps. They do not pay taxes that provide cheese for mouse traps.

Unlike mice, real people benefit from many socialized services in our society including those provided by fire and police departments. And they are not free, but paid for by our taxes.

Your understanding of how our government works is not good.

The word is "Too". Too intelligent to believe in climate change, just like me.

I have lived to see so many media and scientifically-driven end-of-the-world predictions collapse under the weight of reality, I have nearly lost count.

This is how old I am. … Old enough to remember being told that by now…
We would be living through a new Ice Age by the year 2000.
We would all die when the ozone layer disappeared.
            The oceans would be dead.
Global Cooling would destroy the world.
Acid rain would destroy our forests.
Overpopulation would result in worldwide famine.
We would deplete our natural resources.
We would run out of oil.
The polar ice caps would melt.
            Manhattan would be underwater.
People who live in cities will have to wear gas masks.
Nitrogen buildup will make the land unusable.
“Decaying organic pollutants would use up all of the oxygen in America’s rivers, causing freshwater fish to suffocate.”

Mankind can not even accurately predict the weather two weeks ahead, let alone the climate fifty or a hundred years from now.

Over the last half-century the Holy Scientific Consensus has gotten everything wrong, from your breakfast food to the literal apocalypse. But now we are supposed to roll over and play socialist because the Holy Consensus says Climate Change will wipe us out by 2050?

            Sorry, no.

The "global cooling" hypothesis is from 2 magazine articles in the 70's, but was never scientific consensus.

World-wide action was taken to remove CFCs from consumer products to protect the ozone layer (an example of making scientific-based actions that averted disaster)

The oceans are not doing well...

Acid rain; again an example of a problem remedied by science. Pollution controls added to factories reduced oxides of sulfur and nitrogen, pre-cursors to acid rain.

Overpopulation is resulting in famine in many countries.

Natural resources are being depleted. The costs, environmental and monetary, are increasing to extract those resources. This includes oil, and technology has improved as well to access previously inaccessible supplies.

The ice caps ARE melting. It may even be a factor in California's drought. Read about the Ridiculously Resilient Ridge.

People in many cities do wear masks to help breathe. Geez, look at the bay area from the smoke just last month.

No one is asking you to roll over and play socialist to listen to science. We can all have different opinions, but that doesn't change that we are working with the same facts.

Scientists monitor both Arctic and Antarctic sea ice, but Arctic sea ice is more significant to understanding global climate because much more Arctic ice remains through the summer months, reflecting sunlight and cooling the planet.

Sea ice near the Antarctic Peninsula, south of the tip of South America, has recently experienced a significant decline. The rest of Antarctica has experienced a small increase in Antarctic sea ice.

Antarctica and the Arctic are reacting differently to climate change partly because of geographical differences. Antarctica is a continent surrounded by water, while the Arctic is an ocean surrounded by land. Wind and ocean currents around Antarctica isolate the continent from global weather patterns, keeping it cold. In contrast, the Arctic Ocean is intimately linked with the climate systems around it, making it more sensitive to changes in climate.

As temperatures rise, the Arctic Ocean is expected to become ice-free within two or three decades, resulting in more of the sun’s heat being stored in the Arctic Ocean, leading to atmospheric circulation changes and cloud formations in the tropical Pacific that move north.

That will lead to the building of high pressure system known as an atmospheric ridge in the northern Pacific off California’s coast, steering storms north into Alaska and Canada, the study said.

“This has the potential to make a drought very similar to the one we had in 2012 to 2016,” said Ivana Cvijanovic, an atmospheric scientist at the Department of Energy’s Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

You are repeating a right-wing myth. There was never a time when climate scientists reached consensus that the earth was cooling. There was a time in the 1970s when there was far more debate about the direction of climate change than there is now. Because climate science depends heavily on computer models and the power of computers it is not surprising that the certainty of climate scientists is much greater now than in the 1970s. But even in the 1970s there was not a consensus for climate cooling.

Here's a link if you (or anyone reading this) are actually interested in the truth.

"Mankind can not even accurately predict the weather two weeks ahead, let alone the climate fifty or a hundred years from now"
That pretty much says it all. However repeating the climate myth has made a lot of people rich e.g. Al Gore.

A quote without reference to the author. Typical right-wing FUD.

But I accept that some idiot has said that even before you repeated it. So, here is an answer.

Climate is not weather and weather is not climate. It would be useful to predict weather two weeks in advance and that can be done with pretty good, but not perfect accuracy. Good for them.

There is no meaning to predicting climate change weeks or months or a few years in advance. That is mostly weather. Climate change is a multi-year, multi-decade change and we are also doing a pretty good job of predicting that. These are changes measured in trends, not in whether we have snow today or next week. The trends are well measured and predictions on where they lead us have been accurate. CO2 levels continue to increase. Ocean levels, ocean temperature and ocean acidity continue to increase. Glaciers continue to melt. Bark beetles continue to move further north as winters are less cold. They are growing corn in northern Alberta instead of wheat because temperatures are higher and growing seasons longer. All as predicted.
