Probably some lifetime government employee who's pension and entire career is based on the Government. Someone with zero time in the private sector.

Trump's friends the Russians created the story and fed it to the gullible NYT knowing their predisposed animosity towards Trump would guarantee its publication.

Thus by playing on the NYT's reputation as a fairly credible news source they would be able to create not only chaos within the fall elections, but also at the highest levels inside the government, the Whitehouse.

Once again our president with the intelect of a fifth grader has been played the dupe by his Russian handlers. Making America the patsy again. Awesome!

People who work for the government pay income taxes just like people who work for a private employer. The post was making the point that government employees pay their full taxes because the government (IRS) clearly knows how much they were paid. In the private sector a lot of pay and income goes unreported. Especially in a place like Calaveras County you'd really have to have your head in the sand to not realize that.

As a separate point, the federal government is currently running on the expertise of long time civil service employees. Trump and his major appointees have almost no relevant expertise, so at this historical time in particular you should be grateful there are people in the State Department, Treasury, FEMA, EPA, Dept. of Housing and Urban Development, etc. who know what they are doing, know how government works, know the history of programs, etc. It is popular to call this the "Deep State" but at the moment it is also the "Sane State" and the "Competent State." Be grateful they are there and pray that Trump and his minions don't drive them all off. Tillerson did great damage to the State Department and Pruitt did moderate damage to the EPA by driving off the long term employees who actually knew how to do their job. It will take a long time to recover from Trump even if he is impeached, tossed on the 25th amendment or not re-elected.

Govt employees are paid in the end with the private sector's tax dollars. Govt jobs by definition cannot be tax flow positive for the economy. All tax dollars from Govt employees do is lower the drain on the overall economy.

We used to call Govt workers public servants. Now they think we are servants to the Govt and exist to pay them.

That friends is the definition of the "Deep State" and it exists from local Govt all the pay to the top.

The insidious, arrogant attitude that they are smarter and better than the "Wal-Mart" shoppers they serve.

In the end it is those very same folks that contribute enough real margin in the economy to pay their govt salary.

It is a mistake to focus on this anonymous op-ed writer because there really is no credibility without knowing who it is.

But we know that the content of the op-ed is accurate because the same basic story has been told by Bob Woodward, who has huge credibility. The anonymous op-ed has distracted us from the gold standard source, which is Woodward. Woodward gives several specific examples of high level Trump appointees acting to prevent Trump from actually carrying out some of his most terrible ideas, tantrums, and random impulses. Those appointees include Defense Secretary James Mattis and former Economic Advisor Gary Cohn. Those are both very serious, high ranking administration officials.

So....the op-ed story is basically correct but we don't need to know who wrote it because we have the same info from a much better source.

Just another example of the main stream media being distracted by the newest shiny object and failing to stay focus on the many real stories of Trump's incompetence and criminality.

I don't think it was Pence but we do know Pence is not truly loyal to Trump. When the Access Hollywood tape came out in October 2016 just weeks before the election, Pence's reaction was not to support Trump. Instead Pence proposed to the GOP leaders that Trump be dropped from the ticket, he (Pence) be moved up to the Presidential slot and that Condi Rice be moved into the VP slot.

Trump knows all this and Trump is not a person who ever forgets a disloyal act. Ever since the inauguration Pence has gone out of his way to be the super Trump supporter, always praising Trump far beyond what any normal person would. It's embarrassing but Pence knows he is forever on Trump's list of people who have done Trump wrong. So far Pence has done his kissing up well enough that Trump never roasts him in his tweets, but the paranoia surrounding the op-ed may break this truce.

I do not agree with Pence's very conservative politics, but there is no denying that Pence is a real Republican and far more qualified by intellect and emotional stability to be President than Trump is. He would certainly appoint judges as conservative as those Trump appoints and if Pence were doing it the judges would not all have an asterick after their names in the history books. So....the real question is why the Congressional Republicans don't force Trump out or impeach him and put Pence in place ahead of the 2020 election. Pence would have a much better chance of winning if he were running as an incumbent who restored sanity and normal operation to the White House.

It doesn't matter who wrote it. This letter amounts to ass covering by movement conservatives who are getting ready to throw Trump under the bus if the midterms go south. They want to pretend that the chaos and incompetence is all Trump (get ready everybody for another round of "that's not really conservatism") when in actuality Trump is a symptom of a much deeper rot on the political right.

Yep. The tax cut was pure GOP and has increased the deficit by nearly $ one trillion in 11 months. That is all the work of "conservatives" in Congress. Trump himself is not smart enough to read a spread sheet let alone understand a tax bill.

Real conservatives would have cut corporate taxes but they would have also closed generations worth of corporate tax loopholes so that the whole bill would have been revenue neutral or close to it. In fact, the GOP cut tax rates, closed no loopholes, and, in fact, inserted a few new loopholes that benefited.....wait for it.....real estate developers. Rotten to the core.

A person who has an appointed position in Trump's cabinet should not be making policy directly. This defies the Constitution of the United States. The executive makes policy with recommendations from his cabinet. On the other hand, this only verifies what has been reported by numerous others; Trump is bat S#it crazy!

All I can say is, thank-you to the folks who voted in this idiot. I guess he's a lot like many you; he has the critical reasoning capacity of a fifth or sixth grader.
