Yes. We have to act soon. But we have to act thoughtfully, which means we probably can not act while Trump is President.

N. Korea is a problem that was not solved by Bush, Clinton, Bush or Obama. So Trump has a problem that got punted down the road to him. In their meeting during the transition, Obama told Trump that N. Korea would be his biggest problem, and it is. But Trump ran for President and should have known this. And now he is President. This is not a problem he can just whine about or blame others about. Or act like a toddler with a bad temper about. He needs to act like a President, which is going to be hard or impossible for him.

I think China is now more worried about N. Korea than ever before. I think that means they are prepared to actually help (thus their support of more UN sanctions). The US should assure China that N. Korea will remain Communist and that N. and S. Korea will not be reunited. These are China's red lines so painful promises must be made. China and the US together should then call for a meeting with Kim Jung-un, which he will agree to because he craves attention. At the meeting the US and China should jointly tell Kim that the next missile test will be taken as an act of war with both China and the US. The missile will be shot down (or at least we'll try) and he will have a two front war on his hands (China from the north; US from the south). Kim himself will be personally targeted in the first strikes. China should then stop all trade with N. Korea for a long enough period that Kim sees things are different. Perhaps China and the US should jointly blockade N. Korean ports and fly strategic bombers continuously around the country (not in N. Korean airspace) so Kim sees he's minutes from total destruction. And then we should hope Kim is not as nuts as he seems.

And Trump himself should be not involved in any of the talks. This is work for an adult.

Iran does have a nuclear program, Obama gave them the green light for a nuclear reactor, but for peaceful use only, silly.

On 21 August 2007, Iran and the IAEA finalized an agreement, titled "Understandings of The Islamic Republic of Iran and the IAEA on the Modalities of Resolution of the Outstanding Issues," that listed outstanding issues regarding Iran's nuclear program and set out a timetable to resolve each issue in order. These unresolved issues included the status of Iran's uranium mine at Gchine, allegations of experiments with plutonium and uranium metal, and the use of Polonium 210.[369] Specifically regarding the "Alleged Studies", the Modalities agreement asserted that while Iran considers the documents to be fabricated, Iran would nevertheless address the allegations "upon receiving all related documents" as a goodwill gesture. The Modalities Agreement specifically said that aside from the issues identified in the document, there were "no other remaining issues and ambiguities regarding Iran's past nuclear program and activities."

The United States was opposed to the Modalities Agreement between Iran and the IAEA, and vehemently objected to it, accusing Iran of "manipulating" IAEA.[citation needed] Olli Heinonen, the IAEA Deputy Director General for safeguards underlined the importance of the Iran-IAEA agreement as a working arrangement on how to resolve the outstanding issues that triggered Security Council resolutions:

You prefer a nuclear standoff between two leaders who are certifiably crazy? That sort of thing will not end well.

It would be different if there were some method to Trump's madness, but he has shown himself to be be both incapable and uninterested in understanding an issue so as to make a good decision on it. Instead he is all bluff and bluster: "I know more about ISIS than the generals!" "I have a plan for defeating ISIS but I won't tell you because I don't want to tip my hand." "I've sent a team to Hawaii to investigate Obama's birth and you won't believe the stuff they are finding." "I'll show you my tax returns once the audit is finished." All ultimately shown to be lies. Surprise! Surprise!

Now if we could duct tape Donalds mouth shut and his thumbs from using Twitter, the US might not look like it being run by a buffoon.

Good point. NK has been acting up for like this for years. Why, suddenly, in 1 week, even after trump had advance info of this , did he nut up and start a bitch fight with Kim? To distract from his health care failure, his Russian connections and the congress limitations, to distract from Muellers and the grand juries?

When trump says something really stupid, his aids say he was joking, or being sarcastic.

The bozo needs to resign or removed by Congress.

Trump said fire and fury would rain down if NK made any threats. NK made threats. Now what? The president should not threaten stuff he doesn't intend to carry out.

The President needs to be called on it when he does stupid things. The president should speak quietly but carry a big stick. And when he speaks it should be well considered, not just blowing off steam.

I'm not the original poster you're answering, but I would agree.
I did not vote for President Obama, but I stood with our President.
I did not vote for Hillary, because I know the Clinton's are
dirty and corrupt. Look at the facts that we really do know. The first
and only one I will say is while Bill was President, he lied under oath, FACT.
That lie was to you, me and our country, he should of been impeached.
But to cut to the chase, I did vote for Trump over the corrupt Hillary and it would not bother me one
        bit if he was removed
from office and have a more competent person take over.
I just wish he would shut up and stop the embarrassment.
He acts like a little5th grader.
My apologies to the 5th graders in Calaveras County.

I agree Bill Clinton lied under oath, although it was about a personal sexual misdeed that should have been of no interest to the Special Prosecutor or Congress. There was no good reason to even question him under oath about it. But he lied. No question about that.

But this keep it in perspective. Trump lies almost continuously. Where Obama was born. The size of his inauguration crowd. Russian collusion. Illegal voters and his loss of the popular vote. Who can even keep track? And some of those lies really matter.

As for crooked, there is substantial evidence Trump laundered money for the Russian mob and oligarchs including Putin. Trump University was a fraud and finally had to pay up. The Trump Foundation is a scam used to avoid taxes, buy things for the Trump family and make political donations. Trump has a PhD in crooked and the Clintons are still in middle school.

If people hated Clinton for being crooked, you really have to despise Trump.

What was accomplished? We've shown the whole world that if you act like a rogue state the civilized world will make life miserable for you and your country. Compare N to S Korea. That is what diplomatic sanctions have done.

And, of course, we do not have an active war going on with American soldiers being killed.

The Trump administration just had a big success ramping up sanctions with buy-in from both China and Russia. The US was briefly again recognized as a world leader, able to influence events at the highest level. Then our Toddler-in-Chief began tweeting and threatening, and now the world again realizes the US can not be allowed to lead anything because our President has the attention span of an knat and the intelligence of a small pebble.

It must be so frustrating to be Nicki Hailey or Rex Tillerson.

N Korea does not seem to realize, apparently, that pursuant to any nuclear action by their country will simply cease to exist. The sticking point is whether China, or even Russia will intervene.
Yes, the US will probably prevail in virtually any nuclear scenario, but at what cost? Are we willing to have hundreds of thousands, or even millions of citizens perish?
China could lose the entire population number of the US, and barely feel the effect.
Russia lost 20 million during WW II, and is a superpower today.
The US lost fewer than 3000 in the 9-11 attacks and we are still whining about it today.
