Butte Fire Morning Update...71,660 Acres, 37% Contained, 166 Homes & 116 Outbuildings Destroyed, 4,668 Personnel

Posted by: thepinetree on 09/15/2015 09:03 AM
Angels Camp, CA....We attended the Butte Fire Action Plan meeting this morning at Frogtown. It is impressive to see the coordination and planning it takes to keep almost 5,000 people attached to this fire working towards the common goal of putting the Butte Fire into the history books. It was inspiring and also gut wrenching to see the sorrow lined faces of some of our local fire personnel who have seen homes of friends, family, co-workers and is some cases their own homes burn. We spoke with Central Fire Chief Jeff Stone where 7 members of the Central Fire Department lost their homes..

Photos Above From Frogtown This Morning. In two of the above photos you can see a Central Fire Shirt where that Fire District's Firefighters lost 7 homes . Also above is a link to today's map

Frogtown Becomes Noah's Ark For People, Pets & Farm Animals

Posted by: thepinetree on 09/13/2015 04:58 PM
Angels Camp, CA...Local Businesses, Ranchers, FFA, 4H, Animal Services, concerned citizens and more have turned Frogtown's arena and animal areas into a safe haven for those fleeing the fire whether they are on 4 legs or two. Hay, pet food & supplies, toys for kids, toiletries, personal supplies, hot meals, welcome smiles and helping hands abound. This is small town, rural America at it's best. When bad things happen there is no better place to be than communities like ours where people are still used to jumping into action when there is a need. Thank you to all of you helping out and donating. Not only are you meeting real needs you are providing great examples for everyone around you!!

Letter to the Editor/Thank You to Butte Fire Evac Center Volunteers ~ By Carrie Stroble

Posted by: thepinetree on 09/13/2015 05:39 PM
Angels Camp, CA...Please help me thank the selfless people in our community who stepped up during the first two days of the Butte Fire at the animal evacuation center established at the Calaveras Fairgrounds on September 10th. During these first two days, people came together to support the People and Animals affected by this fire. When my mother and I showed up at the fairgrounds to “volunteer” on Friday morning, we found Mr. Beck had bussed over students from Bret Harte High School. These kids hauled out goat panels in the livestock barns and were setting up pens to hold dogs and livestock. In the Small Animal Barn, they brought out the poultry and rabbit pens that were used to hold all types of small animals during the first two days. The students divided themselves into groups and with little direction got it done. Their actions made it possible for animals to be held in the safest and securest manner possible during these first couple of days. Cats, dogs, snakes, mice, guinea pigs, sheep, goats, chickens, turkeys, llamas and hogs showed up in the barns, and a collective of non-affiliated volunteers took these animals in, got them housed and kept them cared for in three of the five barns at the Calaveras Fairgrounds. Horses were taken in and managed by a group of volunteers down at the rodeo arena.
