Governor Newsom Announces Appointments |

Sacramento, CA... Moisés Moreno-Rivera, 30, of Sacramento, has been appointed Assistant Secretary for Equity and Environmental Justice at the California Natural Resources Agency. Moreno-Rivera has been Assistant Tribal Liaison for the State Water Resources Control Board since 2019, where he served as an Environmental Justice Specialist from 2018 to 2019. He was Central Coast Program Coordinator at the Environmental Justice Coalition for Water from 2017 to 2018, Graduate Assistant for Multicultural and Diversity Affairs at the University of Florida from 2015 to 2017 and Human Rights Instructor at the Torres Martinez Desert Cahuilla Indians Education and Library Center from 2013 to 2015. Moreno-Rivera is a member of the Water Solutions Network, Golden Key International Honor Society and Cal Bears in the Desert. He earned a Master of Arts degree in Latin American studies from the University of Florida. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $132,000. Moreno-Rivera is a Democrat.

Washinton, DC...Vice President Harris and I have been briefed on the horrific tragedy that took place this morning in San Jose, where a lone gunman murdered at least eight people and wounded several others at a county rail yard. We are still awaiting many of the details of this latest mass shooting, but there are some things we know for sure. There are at least eight families who will never be whole again. There are children, parents, and spouses who are waiting to hear whether someone they love is ever going to come home. There are union brothers and sisters – good, honest, hardworking people – who are mourning their own.

Amador COVID-19 Update |

Amador County, CA... Amador County Public Health reports 8 more cases of COVID-19 since last Tuesday’s update, bringing the total laboratory confirmed case count to 1,794. The new cases include 6 males and 2 females, 2 children under age 18, 3 aged 18-49, 3 aged 50-64; 1 residing in Ione, 1 in Jackson, 1 living in Pine Grove, 3 in Pioneer, and 2 residing in Sutter Creek/Amador City. Two Amador residents are currently hospitalized.

San Andreas Voters Approve Measure A, Increasing Funding for SAFPD |

San Andreas, CA...San Andreas voters this month approved a special tax that will stabilize the funding for San Andreas Fire Protection District. Measure A will generate approximately $250,000 a year for the district, funds that will make it possible to pay stipends to keep volunteer firefighters at the station 24/7, said District Board President Ken Snyder.
