2011 Calaveras County Fair & Jumping Frog Jubilee Theme Announced |

| Angels CA....The Calaveras County Fair’s Board of Directors met in mid-August and approved the 2011 Fair Theme, “Pirates of the Carrots and Beans”. The theme will be celebrating such programs and “Calaveras Grown”, home and sustainable gardens and products, using the pirate concept to create fun and excitement. Anchoring this exciting theme will be a community garden. Children will have the opportunity to assist in planting a vegetable garden before and during the Calaveras County Fair, May 19-22. The harvest will be donated to the Calaveras County Food bank.... |

Frogtown, USA....Seven bright talented young women competed for the title of Miss Calaveras and a $1,000 scholarship last evening at Frogtown USA. The Miss Calaveras Scholarship pageant is an eight week program that culminates in the stage competition at the Calaveras County Fair. The Program offers more than $2,700 in scholarship monies for contestants. In April the seven contestants began a rigorous rehearsal schedule. They were schooled in interview skills, etiquette, public speaking and talent. The competition comprises of four areas of focus, personal interview, health and fitness, evening gown and talent. Frogtown, USA....The International Frog Jump took place yesterday at Frogtown during the Calaveras County Fair & Jumping Frog Jubilee. Steve Wright with Team Bozo's and his frog "4 Peat" won with a 19'1" finish. Rosie the Ribiter's World Record lives on with a 21'5 3/4" jump...

Angels Camp, Calif. 5/17/2010–Thirty family members and many community friends were on hand while matriarch Mary Jane McSorely Garamendi cut the ribbon signifying the official opening 2010 Calaveras County Fair & Jumping Frog Jubilee, May 13. The event celebrated the “Wit and Wisdom of Mark Twain”. Four fun filled days of excellent weather, great entertainment and competition, awesome food and the greatest patrons in the world made the event the finest in recent history. Some special guest included comedian Larry the Cable Guy and Huell Houser. The new addition of the ‘The Ranch House” built by the Friends of the Fair was one of the new hot spots on the grounds....

Frogtown, USA.....The Frogtown Arena was kickin’ and spurin’ with excitement on Friday evening, May 14 for the Mutton Bustin Steer, Bronc and Bull riding Competition. starting with the grand entry featuring the 2010 Saddle Queen and her court. Two real western activities were scheduled for kids, the coin dig and boot scramble followed by the Calf Branding and Barrel Racing competitions. Then at 8:00 p.m. the real action began, The Western Region Bull Riders Association is back with their exciting bull riding event. The young bull riders begin at age 3. Some young riders competed in fifteen Bull Riding events throughout the year in various locations. At each event riders accumulate points to qualify for the Regional Finals. The individual events are Mutton Busting, Calf .....

Angels Camp, CA...15 year old Bret Harte High School Student, Marilyn Sanders was crowned the Calaveras Saddle Queen for 2010 yesterday afternoon. The Calaveras Saddle Queen Competition has become one the Fair’s signature events. Four young women are competed for the title. The Fair’s scholarship fund awarded $2,000 in scholarship funds to the top three competitors. Young women were judged on their interview skills as well their horsemanship abilities. These hard working students have an extensive preparation process in and out of the Arena. The 2010 Cowgirls are Holly Zeller of Valley Springs, Marilyn Sanders of Douglas Flat, Kelsey Lowe also of Douglas Flat and Ashley Gilmore of San Andreas. The competition director is Michelle Lee ......
