Posted by: thepinetree on 04/16/2019 02:09 PM
|
Columbia, CA...Columbia College held a Community Job Fair that was cosponsored with Mother Lode Job Training. The event hosted 66 employers and that filled the Oak Pavilion April 5 at Columbia College. In talking to several of the organizations there it seemed the only thing missing was waves of job seekers. They felt there may be several reasons for this. Many young kids graduating from our local schools wanted to explore the outside world for at least a few years before possibly returning home. Tuolumne Sheriff's Office Warning of Payroll Phishing Scams |
Posted by: thepinetree on 04/15/2019 04:50 PM
|
Sonora, CA...There has been an uptick in phishing emails involving payroll direct deposit, primarily targeting businesses and companies by rerouting an employee's paycheck by direct deposit. The emails generally impersonate a real company employee, and are sent to payroll or human resources personnel. The email asks the payroll or HR department to change the employee’s deposit for payroll purposes and provides a new bank account and routing number which, of course, leads to a bogus account operated by the scammer. This request may not seem out of the ordinary as the scammer uses an actual employee whether it be a new hire or a retiree. By the time the deception has been discovered, the employee has lost one or two payroll deposits leaving the company responsible in replacing the monetary loss.

Sonora, CA...From the Sonora Police Dept..."A federal judge has sentenced a 50-year-old David E. Otto to 15 years in prison followed by a lifetime of supervised release for contacting, grooming and sexually exploiting girls via social media.
