Rabid Bat Found in Valley Springs. Bat Stir Fry, Bat Tea or Bat Kabobs Not Encouraged

Posted by: thepinetree on 04/23/2020 04:34 PM
Valley Springs, CA...On April 16, 2020, Animal Services investigated a report that a dog had been found playing with a bat on the 100 block of Happy Jack Court in Valley Springs. The incident happened the day prior, and the owner called Animal Services for guidance. The owner was asked to bring the bat to Animal Services for processing; the bat was then sent to the San Joaquin Public Health Laboratory for rabies testing. The rabies test came back positive. The dogs from that household did not have current rabies vaccinations, and have therefore been placed on a mandatory quarantine.

Governor Newsom Announces Plan to Resume Delayed Health Care that was Deferred as Hospitals Prepared for COVID-19 Surge

Posted by: thepinetree on 04/22/2020 03:28 PM
Sacramento, CA...Today, California Governor Gavin Newsom announced plans to allow hospitals and health systems to resume delayed medical care for Californians – such as heart valve replacements, angioplasty and tumor removals, and key preventive care services, such as colonoscopies – which were deferred as the state’s health care delivery systems prepared for a surge of COVID-19 patients. The decision was based on progress toward preparing California hospitals and health systems for a surge in COVID-19 patients – one of the six critical indicators the governor unveiled last week as part of the state’s framework for gradually modifying California’s stay-at-home order.

Heartwarming School Projects from Michelson Elementary

Posted by: thepinetree on 04/21/2020 04:17 PM
Murphys, CA...We are 3rd grade teachers at Michelson Elementary in Murphys, and we wanted to share a recent experience we had in our online Google Classroom. We are hoping to spread some gratitude and cheer with a heartfelt project we have recently done. Switching to online learning (on March 16) has been hard on our students for so many reasons, but the most prevalent is that they do not get to see their friends and learn through the hands on, discussion-based methods that we are so accustomed to. To ease this social sadness, we have been hosting daily Google Meets to catch up, visit, and teach simple lessons. On Fridays, we've been trying to meet up, relax, and do a fun activity together. This week we decided to draw health workers and make thank you cards.

Abbott Shipping 4,000,000 COVID-19 Antibody Tests This Month & 20,000.000 By June

Posted by: thepinetree on 04/19/2020 11:55 AM
Abbott Park, IL...This adds to Abbott's previously announced COVID-19 molecular tests: the m2000™ lab-based test and ID NOW™ rapid point-of-care test. New antibody test will run on Abbott's ARCHITECT® i1000SR and i2000SR laboratory instruments and will expand to its new Alinity™ i system. Abbott is shipping now and intends to distribute 4 million tests in April, ramping to 20 million in the U.S. per month in June and beyond. Abbott announced the launch of its third COVID-19 test, a lab-based serology blood test for the detection of the antibody, IgG, that identifies if a person has had the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Antibody testing is an important next step to tell if someone has been previously infected. It will provide more understanding of the virus, including how long antibodies stay in the body and if they provide immunity. This type of knowledge could help support the development of treatments and vaccines.
