Amador County Public Health Reports Contact Investigations

Amador County, CA – The Amador County Public Health Department confirms that contact investigations are underway related to two positive cases of COVID-19. These individuals are employed in Amador but do not reside within the county. During contact investigations all persons who were in close contact with a confirmed case are contacted, evaluated, and given further instructions. “These newly confirmed cases are an indication of the increasing circulation of the novel coronavirus in California, as expected, given the patterns in our state and region” says Dr. Rita Kerr, Amador County Health Officer.

MIT-Based Team Works on Rapid Deployment of Open-Source, Low-Cost Ventilator

Cambridge, MA...One of the most pressing shortages facing hospitals during the Covid-19 emergency is a lack of ventilators. These machines can keep patients breathing when they no longer can on their own, and they can cost around $30,000 each. Now, a rapidly assembled volunteer team of engineers, physicians, computer scientists, and others, centered at MIT, is working to implement a safe, inexpensive alternative for emergency use, which could be built quickly around the world.

Sacramento, CA...Governor Gavin Newsom today launched a major new initiative to expand California’s health care workforce and recruit health care professionals to address the COVID-19 surge. Health care professionals with an active license, public health professionals, medical retirees, medical and nursing students, or members of medical disaster response teams in California are all encouraged to join the new California Health Corps.

Second Positive Case of COVID-19 Identified in Tuolumne County

Sonora, CA....The Public Health Department was notified today that a 34-year-old female resident of Tuolumne county tested positive for COVID-19 and recovered while isolated at home. The individual’s exposure to COVID-19 occurred outside of the county in an area with community transmission before the State Health Officer stay-at-home order was issued. The person has remained isolated in their home since the onset of symptoms and has completed the isolation time period.

Through a partnership with the state, Bloom Energy has transformed its production facility to quickly refurbish life-saving ventilators to provide California with the critical equipment it needs to prepare for a potential surge in COVID-19 patients.
