Sacramento, CA....The California Department of Public Health yesterday announced the most recent statistics on COVID-19. California now has 8,155 confirmed cases and 171 deaths. As of March 31, local health departments have reported 127 confirmed positive cases in health care workers. Face Covering Recommendation to General Public During COVID-19 Outbreak |

San Andreas, CA...On April 1, 2020, Calaveras County Health Officer, Dean Kelaita, MD in coordination with Governor Gavin Newsom and the California Public Health Officer and Director, Sonia Andell, MD, MPH, released guidance on face coverings for the general public. The guidance instructs the use of cloth face coverings for the general public when outside the home conducting essential activities. A face covering does not take the place of existing guidance about social distancing and handwashing. It does not mandate that face coverings be worn by the public at this time.

BAT Working on Potential COVID-19 Vaccine Through US Bio-Tech Subsidiary. Potential to Manufacture 1-3 Million Doses of Vaccine Per Week |

Owensboro, KY...BAT’s US bio-tech subsidiary, Kentucky BioProcessing (KBP), is developing a potential vaccine for COVID-19 and is now in pre-clinical testing. If testing goes well, BAT is hopeful that, with the right partners and support from government agencies, between 1 and 3 million doses of the vaccine could be manufactured per week, beginning in June.

San Andreas, CA....Dignity Health Mark Twain Medical Center today announced the launch of a free virtual urgent care service, Virtual Care Anywhere, for anyone in our community experiencing mild to moderate symptoms of the new coronavirus. Virtual urgent care visits are being encouraged as an initial care option for anyone who would like to discuss symptoms characteristic of COVID-19 with a health care professional.

Amador County Public Health Confirms Third COVID-19 Case |

Amador County, CA...The Amador County Public Health Department confirms an additional positive case of COVID-19 in an elderly Amador County resident. This new diagnosis is travel-associated and is not linked to community transmission. The individual is currently isolated at home and recovering. All household members and close contacts of this new case have been contacted, evaluated and provided further instructions. No further information on this case will be released to protect patient privacy. “We want our community to continue taking precautions and remember that you are safer at home” says Dr. Rita Kerr, Amador County Health Officer.

Rabid Skunk Killed in Mountain Ranch |

San Andreas, CA...On March 27, 2020 Animal Services investigated a dog on skunk attack in the 8000 block of Avenue A in Mountain Ranch. Two dogs killed a skunk the day prior and the owner called to report the incident. The skunk was sent to the San Joaquin Public Health Laboratory for rabies testing. The test came back positive for rabies. The dogs were both current on their rabies vaccines and have been placed on a mandatory quarantine as a precaution.

Amador County Public Health Reports Contact Investigations |

Amador County, CA – The Amador County Public Health Department confirms that contact investigations are underway related to two positive cases of COVID-19. These individuals are employed in Amador but do not reside within the county. During contact investigations all persons who were in close contact with a confirmed case are contacted, evaluated, and given further instructions. “These newly confirmed cases are an indication of the increasing circulation of the novel coronavirus in California, as expected, given the patterns in our state and region” says Dr. Rita Kerr, Amador County Health Officer.
