This morning during a public Promotional / Hiring / Affirmation of Office Ceremony, Sheriff Rick DiBasilio proudly swore in a large group of recently hired or promoted Sheriff’s employees. The list included the promotion of one patrol sergeant, three corporals, two senior dispatchers and two correctional officer corporals.

The Economy 157,000 Jobs in July as Economy Shows Continued Strength

Washington, DC...Total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 157,000 in July, and the unemployment rate edged down to 3.9 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Employment increased in professional and business services, in manufacturing, and in health care and social assistance. Household Survey Data In July, the unemployment rate edged down by 0.1 percentage point to 3.9 percent, following an increase in June. The number of unemployed persons declined by 284,000 to 6.3 million in July. Both measures were down over the year, by 0.4 percentage point and 676,000, respectively.

NASA Assigns Crews to First Test Flights, Missions on Commercial Spacecraft

Houston, TX...NASA introduced to the world on Friday the first U.S. astronauts who will fly on American-made, commercial spacecraft to and from the International Space Station – an endeavor that will return astronaut launches to U.S. soil for the first time since the space shuttle’s retirement in 2011.  “Today, our country’s dreams of greater achievements in space are within our grasp,” said NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine. “This accomplished group of American astronauts, flying on new spacecraft developed by our commercial partners Boeing and SpaceX, will launch a new era of human spaceflight. Today’s announcement advances our great American vision and strengthens the nation’s leadership in space.”


NASA introduced to the world on Aug. 3, 2018, the first U.S. astronauts who will fly on American-made, commercial spacecraft to and from the International Space Station – an endeavor that will return astronaut launches to U.S. soil for the first time since the space shuttle’s retirement in 2011. The agency assigned nine astronauts to crew the first test flight and mission of both Boeing’s CST-100 Starliner and SpaceX’s Crew Dragon. The astronauts are, from left to right: Sunita Williams, Josh Cassada, Eric Boe, Nicole Mann, Christopher Ferguson, Douglas Hurley, Robert Behnken, Michael Hopkins and Victor Glover.

Arnold, CA...(Update...On Sunday August 5th, access to the White Pines Lake Beach parking area will be closed to the public for a Firefighters Memorial and procession and followed by a celebration of life at the Moose Lodge.) It is with deep regret that the Ebbetts Pass Fire District must announce the passing of one of our Board of Directors John Daniel “Dan” Leary. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, August 5th at 3:00 PM at Ebbetts Pass Fire District Station 1, located at 1037 Blagen Road in Arnold, CA 95223. The service will be held with full Fire Department Honors. After the funeral service, the Ebbetts Pass - Moose Lodge 1123, would like to invite you to celebrate the life of Dan Leary at their Lodge located at 1965 Blagen Rd, Arnold, CA 95223.
