San Andreas, CA...Mark Twain Medical Center (MTMC) will be holding its 20th Annual Fall Health Fair on Saturday, September 29th from 7am to noon at the Hospital Campus in San Andreas. In addition to the many valuable services and information that will be available; this year the MACT Health Board, Inc. will have two of their Optometrists from their San Andreas Clinic at the 20th Annual Fall Health Fair to provide free vison and glaucoma screenings.

Sacramento, CA...Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. signed legislation – SB 834 by Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara) and AB 1775 by Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi (D-Torrance) – to block new federal offshore oil drilling along California’s coast, and announced the state’s opposition to the federal government’s plan to expand oil drilling on public lands in California.

San Andreas, CA...Calaveras Community Foundation (CCF) presented two scholarships recently to two Columbia College students. Funds were from the Liz Darby Airola Fund for Nursing Students. Each scholarship was in the amount of $500.

Calaveras County Repaying Renewal Fees for Commercial Cannabis Growers

San Andreas, CA – Calaveras County is working towards a final conclusion of the commercial cannabis regulatory program. Part of that process will require an accounting and possible reimbursement of funds remaining in the regulatory fee fund. The initial reimbursements for those growers who paid a renewal registration fee will occur by October 15, 2018. Renewal fees were paid 28 cultivation sites who will be notified of the availability of a refund check.

Angels Camp, CA...Hope springs eternal must have been my frame of mind when the Lode hotel was purchased by me in 2002. The flamboyant history of what the place has meant to so many and the building echoing all the past lives it had lived (see history below article prepared by historian) was especially enthralling to me. The hotel stands very close to the major gold mines and was a central place for miners to live and work while gold fever was running rampant in City of Angels Camp. More recently, the building was deemed not in livable condition according to the City of Angels and therefore the low income housing it had long provided to many of the less fortunate was shut down. My understanding is the former owner spent years fighting for the Lode's survival only to lose it in a fight similar to mine
