Bear Valley Cross Country's Opening Day is Friday, November 29th

Bear Valley, CA....Bear Valley Cross Country's groomed trail system is scheduled to open on Friday, November 29, 2013! This is snow conditions permitting and there is a bit of precipitation in the forecast, so please do your snow dances. Some of the first trails to open will be the 3 new ones added for this winter. Other improvements include new grooming equipment and a significant amount of summer trail tune-up work. Snow Biking. Utilizing "fat bikes" that have wide, 4-inch tires with a beefy tread, these specialty bikes can glide over packed trails leaving barely a mark (no grooming damage) that regular mountain bikes can't. Bear Valley Cross Country has purchased a fleet of rental and retail Fat Tire Snow Bikes for the 2013-14 season. There will be a nice selection of trails where this activity will be allowed. More information will be released soon...
Sac-Joaquin Cross Country Sub-Section Meet Packs Frogtown

Frogtown, CA...On November 9 Frogtown and the adjacent Tryon Ranch was filled to overflowing with young runners as the Sac-Joaquin Sub-Sections meet rolled into the Calaveras Fairgrounds. 59 School Buses, and hundreds of vehicles made Frogtown look like the fair was in session. Frogtown has become one of the classic venues on the Cross Country calendar every year. Local runners did very well including Bret Harte's Nolan Johnson who took division honors and then went on to run a top 20 time at the Section Championships on the 16th....

San Andreas, CA...The Redskins rolled over Hughson in round one of the playoffs and will take on Ripon in the next round. The Amador Buffaloes finished a great season unfortunately on the losing end of a 37-0 score against Escalon.

New Melones Fishing Report ~ from Glory Hole Sports

Angels Camp, CA... New Melones Lake is currently holding 1,027,728 acre-feet of water. The lake level rose very little this week and is currently at 946 ft. above sea level and 140 ft. from full. The water is fairly clear in some areas and slightly stained in others. The water temperature will be cooling a bit each week until the lake turns over. The lake has cooled some and is 60-66 degrees depending on what part of the lake you are fishing. The docks have been moved on Glory Hole Point. This makes for an easy launch and very short walk to and from the parking lot.
Bob James caught a beautiful rainbow on Power Bait. He and Gary Burns used the boat to find a good bank fishing area.

Sonora, CA...The Bureau of Reclamation’s Central California Area Office has rescheduled the C.A.S.T. (Catch a Special Thrill) for Kids fishing event which had previously been scheduled for Oct. 12 at New Melones Lake but was cancelled due to the federal government shutdown. The event will now be held on Saturday, Nov. 9, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at New Melones Lake’s Tuttletown Boat Launch in the Tuttletown Recreation Area. New Melones Lake is located in Calaveras and Tuolumne counties, approximately 60 miles east of Stockton, Calif...
