Respirit: To inspire a courageous and purposeful spirit. ~ By Catherine Cornish

Posted by: John_Hamilton on 03/02/2013 09:06 AM
Murphys, CA...This time of year, I’m getting a lot of wishes thrown in my direction for a “better 2012.” While obviously the sentiment is sweet, I can’t help but hear the implication that my 2011 was perhaps sub-par. I will admit that it was eventful. Okay, so I was 36 years old and had a stroke in my cerebellum this year. But it turned out to be a huge blessing: it led to my cancer diagnosis....

(Editors Note: Catherine Cornish as many of you know wrote a Bi-Weekly Column for ThePineTree.net last year. With her moving her fight against this disease to another playing field this last week we will be running one each day until they are gone. He willingness to share her journey is one of the things that made her fight against cancer relevant to so many people. Comments will be disabled as she is not here to respond to them.

Respirit – 23 “Single Mom’s Auto” By Catherine Cornish

Posted by: John_Hamilton on 08/04/2012 09:53 AM
Angels Camp, CA...You may remember I recently wrote a column that vaguely described a gift I had received. I made reference to being in danger and in desperation, and that God scooped me up and gave me exactly what I needed. Well, today I get to add the detail to that story. I am so excited because it is indeed a fantastic story. More importantly, it is a story that reminds us not only of the goodness of Our Lord, but that good people still exist right here on earth....

Respirit – Week 22 “My Approval Rating” By Catherine Cornish

Posted by: John_Hamilton on 07/19/2012 09:24 AM
Angels Camp, CA...There is something very unique about suffering through a disease like cancer in a small town. There are few places I can go where my health problem is unknown. I am met with compassionate smiles, or awkward glances, and usually kind and encouraging words. Certainly the way I have been compelled to journey through my illness has magnified that lack of anonymity. I wouldn’t change a thing. I couldn’t change a thing. It’s the only way I know how to be as a Christian, and just as Catherine....

Respirit – Week 21 “Caught in a Flood” By Catherine Lewallen

Posted by: John_Hamilton on 07/05/2012 09:47 PM
Murphys, CA..Yesterday we celebrated the birth of this great country. Hopefully you enjoyed your family as much as I did on this special day. We remembered the principles upon which this nation was founded, despite the diligent efforts of contemporary historians to hide those facts from Americans and their children. We are a Christian nation. That means we are welcoming and loving and accepting of all others. But above all, it acknowledges our belief in One God, Jesus Christ. Yesterday, when I witnessed firsthand an absolute miracle, I was brought to my knees in awe of a true Day of Independence...

Respirit – Week 20 “The Definition of ‘Fighting’ Cancer” By Catherine Lewallen

Posted by: John_Hamilton on 06/20/2012 08:27 AM
Murphys, CA...“Fighting cancer” is perhaps the most common way we describe surviving this dreaded disease. But if you haven’t dealt with it yourself, or closely helped someone else through it, the word “fighting” might be a little abstract. I know I had a dramatic image of intense pain and some serious stoicism. I also pictured of course never quitting, no matter how horrible a procedure or treatment was. I now know that these are in fact components to the battle against cancer. But the vast majority of the fight involves things I had never considered....

Respirit – Week 19 “Do You Ever Feel Like the Luckiest Person on Earth?” By Catherine Lewallen

Posted by: John_Hamilton on 06/01/2012 07:38 AM
Murphys, CA...About a month ago, we discovered that I had two new tumors in my brain. It was perhaps a little disheartening. I definitely did not consider that turn of events to be ideal. But I am reminded by this development of how blessed I am. I am receiving the very best medical care possible. How many people discover their brain lesions too late? My oncologist tells me that some people have tumors the size of grapefruit before they start displaying symptoms that are persistent and troubling enough to finally send them to the doctor...

Respirit – Week 18 “The Miracle of His Complex Plan” By Catherine Lewallen

Posted by: John_Hamilton on 05/20/2012 10:56 AM
Murphys, CA...About a month ago, I analyzed the work I was doing through my fight with cancer. I doubted I was doing enough. Things were feeling stagnant, and it troubled me because I am deeply compelled to do all I possibly can to make the most of this situation. Little did I know that awesome changes were on the horizon. I am now reminded that I am exactly where I’m supposed to be....

Respirit – Week 17 “If One Falls Down, A Friend Can Help Him Up” By Catherine Lewallen

Posted by: John_Hamilton on 05/15/2012 09:42 AM
Murphys, CA..Early on in my battle against cancer, friends in my community urged me to reach out to another local cancer survivor. I didn’t. It felt silly, and perhaps a little rude. I mean, who wants to call someone just because they have cancer too? But I was wrong. When Stacy instead reached out to me, I gained enormous comfort and a bond that will remain unmatched and unbroken though I remain here on earth, feeling a little alone, and she has gained her ultimate healing in heaven....

Respirit – Week 16 “God’s Gifts Have No End” By Catherine Lewallen

Posted by: John_Hamilton on 05/09/2012 05:32 PM
Murphys, CA...This week finds me just buried in medical arrangements. I am dealing with insurance authorizations, consults, ultrasounds, CTs, and radiation. After more than two months without any appointments, I guess I should feel rejuvenated and ready to tackle anything. I pray that God continues to bless me with relentless strength, because we have discovered another small tumor in my brain....
