Letter to the Editor on CCWD Proposed Rate Increases ~ By Bob Vera

Posted by: thepinetree on 04/24/2018 07:07 PM
San Andreas, CA...CCWD talks about their shortfall of $ 700,000.00 in revenue a year because we have conserved due to the drought. I say they are crazy and ignoring the truth, many of us use paper plates to cut back on water use and many of us now only take a couple showers each week because the costs of water and sewer are way too high and out of control.

California Needs Action on Flood Insurance Reforms ~ By Steve Ellis

Posted by: thepinetree on 03/28/2018 02:36 AM
La Grange, CA...The record-breaking floodwaters that recently soaked Tuolumne County should serve as the latest warning that unless Congress reforms and renews the nation’s debt-ridden flood insurance program, more than 238,900 residents across California may be unable to rebuild after the next storm strikes.

Arnold, CA...With all of the data collection issues making the rounds in the news recently we thought we would pass along our data privacy and use policy. Pretty basic in that we cannot share, use or sell data we do not collect. This is one of the main reasons we don't ask you to login, provide us any email addresses or any personal data. You are our guests and we appreciate your visits and that is it.

Dear California Students, Parents & Faculty ~ Letter to the Editor by Dave & Melissa Wagner

Posted by: thepinetree on 03/11/2018 12:38 PM
Arnold, CA...Your Governor has advertised to every mass shooter out there that California schools are now a soft target that will offer no armed resistance to a shooter going for a high body count. He has “outlawed” the right of licensed carry and responsible defensive firearm possession on school campuses (Penal Code 626.9-11). That means that even those parents or staff that you might not even know about who are trained, qualified, and licensed to discreetly carry a weapon are no longer able to protect you at school, or even near school. Sorry.

Is it Time to Revisit O'Connor v. Donaldson the Supreme Court Decision That Effectively Ended Mental Hospitals

Posted by: thepinetree on 02/15/2018 06:22 PM
Washington, DC...In wake of the Florida school shooting that was allegedly committed by a young man that many people knew ahead of time had some very disturbing tendencies is it time to revisit how we treat the mentally ill or potentially mentally ill?  The Florida School Shooting, Texas Church Massacre, Sandy Hook and many more were carried out by those with known mental issues.  O'Connor v. Donaldson was the 1975 Supreme Court case that effectively ended the era of state mental hospitals.  While that decision was laudable for many, many reasons it has also led to an era of epidemic homelessness, mass shootings and rising suicide rates. We have effectively made our streets and communities open air mental hospitals.

Is The Cannabis Ban Kind? ~ Al Segalla

Posted by: thepinetree on 02/15/2018 02:19 PM
Copperopolis, CA...Recently the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors passed a resolution supporting Kindness Week. This is a good thing. However, at a previous meeting, they passed a ban on commercial cannabis farming. Also, they stopped the proposal to let the public express their opinion. To me, although I don't like cannabis, it seems that threatening an estimated 1,000 to 1,500 peaceful farmers who contribute to a large portion of our economy does not seem consistent with kindness week.

National Forest Now Open Range? ~ Op-Ed By Tony Gheno

Posted by: thepinetree on 01/26/2018 12:43 PM
Sonora, CA...The Toulumne County Court has determined that National Forest Land is now Open Range. This is a huge change considering it has been closed range since the gold rush days. This affects thousands of property owners in our county. Any land that borders the forest or in the forest can now run Cattle, if the FS wants to stop them they will need to build fences to keep them off FS land.

The Question Democrats Fear Most. ~ Op-Ed by Rep. Tom McClintock CA-04

Posted by: thepinetree on 01/18/2018 02:29 PM
Roseville, CA...As the tax reform bill entered its final consideration in December, one congressional Democrat confided to a colleague that the reason they so vehemently opposed it was that they were afraid it would work. With the bill now signed into law over unanimous Democratic opposition, every American family is about to find out.

Is Cannabis Evil? ~ By Al Segalla

Posted by: thepinetree on 01/05/2018 12:27 PM
Copperopolis, CA...If it is, then a ban seems to make sense, even if we would violate the Constitution with its protection of the individual rights to Life, Liberty and Property. On the other hand, considering our experience with the ban on alcohol, whereby it was discovered that booze was not evil or bad, but could be abused with bad consequences to the participants and society, it seems cannabis is also not evil or bad - no more than alcohol or smoking. There can be bad consequences with irresponsible use of all three.

Frogs, Faith, and Reason ~ By John MacWillie, Ph.D

Posted by: thepinetree on 12/19/2017 09:19 AM
Angels Camp, CA...Summary: Bret Harte High School and its Board (BHUHSD) is being challenged by a student who objects to a school policy prohibiting the discussion of religious issues (e.g., "Creationism" and "intelligent design") in natural science classes. The student and his attorney argue that this prohibition is an unconstitutional restriction of his right to free speech. The background to this case is set forth in Part I below. The current school policy is presented in Part II. For those unfamiliar with "intelligent design", a brief summary is provided in Part III.
