Spellman Please Quit Attacking My Wife!~by Michael McDaniel

Posted by: Kim_Hamilton on 05/16/2011 09:35 AM
Supervisor Spellman’s continued attacks on my wife and me are getting old. It seems that our District 5 Supervisor is out for revenge on any one who supported Russ Thomas in the election. Instead of doing something for our community; he is spending his time (while supposedly working for us) digging up anything he can for revenge on those that did not support him. Look at who else he has attacked and it’s obvious what his is agenda really is. Spellman never attends local events here or in Copperopolis because he says the county doesn’t pay him enough of a stipend to cover his district; interesting that the last two Supervisors didn't seem to have a problem meeting, greeting and supporting their constituents.....

Arnold, CA....Our family is a huge fan of the SPCA (Calaveras Humane Society) thrift store in the Big Trees Center. We donate to it, and are customers of its excellent quality, yet reasonably priced merchandise. In conversations with management and staff at the store, it is obvious it is enthusiastically run and well managed And of course we are pleased knowing we are supporting the SPCA is its mission of helping animals in need. And we note the heavy amount of traffic that it brings to the Big Trees Center. Our one concern is the tiny space it occupies. When there are .....

Local 8th Grader Headed to State Science Fair.....Still A Little Short of His Goal

Posted by: Kim_Hamilton on 04/24/2011 04:13 PM
Calaveras County, CA...Update 4/28/11: Michael has received some very generous donations from our viewers! The family is so thankful! "I am so excited for him, what a wonderful opportunity he has before him and with his drive to do the best he can, hopefully he will place during the state competition. He is going to go back to the IGA in Copperopolis again tomorrow with his project to answer questions and share what he has discovered. Hopefully by the end of the day he will have reached his goal , he has a baseball game on Saturday morning" States Michael's Grandmother, Cindi Bent.....Local 8th grader, Michael Legge is headed to the State Science Fair! Michael won 1st place at the Calaveras County Science Fair in his division with his project "Mysterious Bacteria vs. Evil Tobacco." Michael is a student at Mark Twain Elementary and needs our help! Here is a letter from Michael: "Hello my name is Michael Legge and I am an 8th grade student at Mark Twain Elementary School. Mark Twain doesn't require students to do science fair projects but I went out and did one on my own. .....

And Now, The Rest of the Story…from CUEA

Posted by: Kim_Hamilton on 04/21/2011 10:22 PM
In response to the outcry by CUSD certificated and classified union members to the April 13 article “CUSD chief says no to salary hike” [sic], the Calaveras Unified Educators’ Association (CUEA) wishes to clarify some potential misconceptions. Salary Concession: Superintendent Campbell “turned down a raise that he was due during the 2011-12 school year” only after nine months of pressure from CUEA, the California State Employees’ Association (CSEA), and local community members who placed signs along Highway 26 in Valley Springs in the fall of 2010 criticizing his planned salary increases during tight financial times. Let’s be clear, Mr. Campbell didn’t willingly “give up” his 2011-12 four percent raise - he yielded to pressure......

Letter to the Editor~by CUEA Executive Board

Open Invitation to the Public from the Calaveras Unified Educators’ Association. The Calaveras Unified Educators’ Association (CUEA) is extremely concerned with the deep cuts to education for our local students. We are asking parents and community members to take a more active role in influencing the scope of those cuts for the 2011-2012 school year by attending Calaveras Unified School District (CUSD) Board Meetings for the remainder of this school year......

The FEMA Scheme ~ By David Tunno

Posted by: thepinetree on 03/28/2011 11:50 AM
Valley Springs, CA...At the request of Rancho Calaveras residents Bob and Char Stanton in early January of 2011, I was asked to look into the actions by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in preparation for a meeting with FEMA representative Kathleen Schaefer and others on January 26th at the County offices and to represent the Stanton’s in that meeting. My investigation of the facts surrounding the Stantons’ example and others in the County revealed what appears to be a massive fraud on the part of FEMA, not just on Calaveras residents, but on potentially millions across the U.S...

Dear Lonald:

After reading, and re-reading the above assessment, it is my distinct opinion that your assessment is clearly biased and slanted in such a calculating manner, that it leads me to believe that you predetermined your conclusions and then “fit” your interpretation of the facts to fit your conclusions.....

Dog Lovers Attention, Because of my involvement with Murphys Irish Day, each year I get calls from people asking if it is o.k. to bring their dog to the event. I tell them there are no restrictions but to please consider the circumstances. There is a huge crowd so people walk very close to each other, and a lot of families have strollers with small children......

What’s CalPERS Really Going to Cost Us? ~By David Tunno

Posted by: Kim_Hamilton on 03/14/2011 05:42 PM
Prompted by the growing awareness of the financial impact of public employee retirement plans, the Calaveras County Taxpayers Association has sought data from the County with which to calculate the growing debt created by those plans and the keeper of those retirement funds, CalPERS. Thus far, according to CCTA President Al Segalla, the County’s disclosures have come up far short, including a response CCTA received to a request for information on the CalPERS criteria for determining County retirement contributions. “You are asking for information not documents. The county is in no position to .....
